What sms apps do you guys use?

Currently I have the Palm Pre and texting looks fantastic on it... I Like it way more than the Iphones texting interface. But I've heard some complaints about the Evos default sms.

What do you guys recommend to download once I open up my "surprise" evo on Christmas?

Totally agree - Handcent - there's nothing like it.

It's free in the Market and your next set of how-to-use answers are right here:

FAQ

No fooling, that FAQ is the key to the mint.

Also - you might want to turn off LED notifications in the Handcent preferences. It's feature-rich in its settings - and the default tends to over-do it, in my personal opinion.

Used Handscent for awhile, and checked out Chompsms. Has all the same features you could want, full customization, pop-up quick reply windows (which I don't use). I like Chompsms better because you'll notice that the resolution of it is greater than handscent, once I realized that it made handscent look like crap. I'm not a huge texter, but I hit around 1500 a month and I love Chompsms.

But I'd do what I did, give each one at least a week to see how you like it ( I actually used handscent for a couple months, and have been on Chomp for about a month) and if it has any bugs with your phone and/or any other apps you run.

That's exactly what I did and Handcent won me over. I like the pop up message where I can reply straigt from the window and now have to press anything. The attachment feature on Handcent is a lot easier to work with as well as saving pictures to your SD card. Handcent has awesome customization also.

Handcent for me. I enlarge the font to make it easier to see and like the quick reply.

Also what's important to me is that if you take a pic with the phone it will reduce the size so I can text it.

I use Handcentas my texting app. But I use other supplement apps to aid me in texting such as 'Text Easy'. It allows me to send messages to entire groups of people much easier than I have seen any other app do.

Is anyone else having problems emailing images from chompSMS texts? I have HTC EVO and whenever I try to email an image in my chompSMS, I get an error message saying UNABLE TO SEND EMAIL. It doesnt matter which email account I use - gmail, yahoo or POP3. Otherwise, my emails are working fine...I can get and send email normally with all of the same email accts. Im just having problems with chompSMS.

I thought I was using Handcent to SMS but my g/f mentioned that each of my messages has a "via Gtalk" signature. Anyone know what that's about?

I use stock but after seeing all these raving reviews of handcent I'll give it a shot. I tried ChompSMS, since I had Crunch on my blackberry, but it got sketchy on my EVO and had a few glitches like opening a different thread when I clicked on another one.

I used chompSMS briefly, but have now switched to Handcent. It's very similar to chomp, but I find it's a little bit more customizable and it seems a bit more user-friendly (to me). Just my $.02.

I use Chompsms because I like the feature that shows how many text messages I already sent. But sometimes it is too slow for me...maybe I will try that Handcent.

Can Handcent be moved to the SD card and still function normally with notifications and everything? I moved my Facebook app from the phone to sd and it was a disaster with contact pictures and such.

Thx

Another vote for Handcent, tried out quite a few but settled in Handcent. It tends to have too much customization but I only use what I need.
