Help What speed microSDXC card do we need for the Note 3?

GScherler

Newbie

How fast a microSDXC card do we need for the Note 3? I can't find what the write speed of the Note 3 is. I see a range from 10 on up for write and the read speeds vary from 15 up to 75 that I have seen...

Bottom line, I just don't want the SD card to be the slowest piece of my Note 3 so any help would be appreciated!

Thanks.

For the speed of the phone not sure yet, will check that out once I receive the Note 3. I am thinking it will be pretty quick if it is able to shoot (4K) 3840x2160 video. :)

I just received the Samsung Electronics 64GB Pro microSDXC (UHS-1) Class 10 from Amazon and look foward to using it. Packaging/and reviewers list (Depending on the capabilities of the device) that it runs 70MBPS read and 20MBPS write.

Amazon.com: Samsung Electronics 64GB Pro microSDXC Extreme Speed (UHS-1) Class 10 Memory Card (MB-MGCGB/AM): Computers & Accessories

I originally ordered the SanDisk Ultra 64 GB microSDXC Class 10 UHS-1 Memory Card 30MB/s with Adapter (SDSDQUA-064G-U46A) It lists on the packaging 30MBPS read/10MBPS write.

I picked Sandisk originally because that is the manufacturer that I usually had gone with in the past. After noticing the speed difference listed I decided to go with Samsung (The phone is also Samsung). There are not as many reviews for the Samsung memory, but if you look at the ratio Sandisk/Samsung.. Samsung is higher, and only ~10$ difference. Seemed better to me. I ordered both this past week and decided to return the Sandisk (Not used/opened either yet so can't fully review both other than what the reviews note on Amazon.)

Regardless of the speed of the device always get the fastest memory card you can find or afford. Like you said, you don't want the memory card to be the limiting factor.

I have the 2nd one installed in my Droid Bionic. Would like to figure out how to run a benchmark read/write on my bionic. then do the same on the N3 when it comes. to see if either support higher UHS-1 speeds.

anyone have experience with SD card read/write benchmarking before I go searching for howto..

UHS-1 Class 10 is the fastest card on the market that I know of, and at Amazon they're cheaper than $1 USD / GB. Got my Samsung 64 GB Pro microSD there.

Yes. Agree. But not all devices support UHS-1 xfer rates. Looking at micro SD benchmarking articles. The same card have have vastly different performance in a PC vs Smart phone vs camera (for example).

So the sd socket and driver need to support the capabilities of the card, else you just overpay for something. Thats the driver behind the request for those to run some benchmarking with the N3 and hopefully a comparision between the sandisk ultra and the samsung pro.
