What Text Message App Are You Using??

Hello, well I'm at it again. Asking yet another question! So I have scanned through all the titles of the threads in the Bionic regular section up until about page 8 and up until page 5 in the root section and was unable to find anything talking about who uses what text app.

I'm at a very frustrating point right now, I really like GoSMS Pro but there are now 2 things that piss me off about it. One is that unless I pay for the Premium package I can't have my contacts photos show up if they are linked with a facebook account because it's not allowed any longer. So that's the first part of that issue but the other is when I put an actual photo from my phone as the contact picture, it doesn't show up. The newest issue I have is the update they just did. Now my texts show up as all me and then all the replying person's texts instead of them being in order going back and forth. That to me is just stupid and I HATE IT!!

So I tried Handcent....yeah I'm not a fan at all. You can apply plenty of different themes but you can't download them and just switch back and forth like you can on GoSMS. I love the custom themes on GoSMS, and I hate the stock messaging app that comes on all android phones. I haven't been without GoSMS since I had my first Droid. At the current moment I am still using the GoSMS app but I had the extreme ICS theme applied and now I'm just using the regular ICS theme. I love the blue and black and how it looks, so honestly that's a deal breaker for me if it doesn't have that option. And the other thing with Handcent is that I don't want pop ups for my texts and it has them. I hate that, and there is no way at all to turn it off.

Is there any other app out there that is as good and as popular as GoSMS and Handcent? If not then what are my other options??

So, I put chomp on my phone. Not bad....needs more themes though. I went back into GoSMS and yeah it's working like it always has. Which is perfect! I'm guessing it was a glitch or something that was making the conversations separate. Anyways, I'll keep Chomp and just disable it in the apps menu so it doesn't get in the way. If GoSMS ever gives me problems again and I get sick of it I'll just go that route.

have you looked at Kik or just Google Talk, which is my preferred option unless I need to send photos, in which case Kik can do (no idea as to the size limit--only used it a few times).

when i had a BB I was afraid I'd miss BBM. LOL! hardly. :)

I text people that don't use google talk. Also I now have another issue....out of the blue my texting has gotten worse. In the sense that I did a thread over the weekend where I stated that people were sending me picture messages but that I wasn't receiving them. Well that still isn't fixed and now I'm not getting texts back from people but yet they are responding. Thus never happened before ICS, not that I'm blaming the update but where else do I turn once I contact Verizon and see if they can figure it out. I am still receiving Facebook alerts and twitter....just no text.

I had a similar issue a while back, and the problem was that some contacts had a "1" at the beginning of the number, i.e. 1-212-555-1234. According to customer support at the time, "1"s are bad now... just need the area code and number.

Anyway, sometimes messages would go through, sometimes they wouldn't. So I went through all my contacts and got rid of the 1 at the beginning of the ones that had it... problem solved.

Maybe not the issue that's causing your problem, but it's worth a look.

I called customer support, did everything they said and got moved to a tech 2. Had to pull my Sim a second time so the guy could reset some stuff. Ended up being caused by what we could make out at least by my disabling the stock messaging app. My best guess along with the tech was that with the new update from go SMS pro along with the disabled app caused the issue. So a word to everyone....don't disable the stock app, or Trey and not take the new update from go SMS pro.

Yes, great advice. If you are going to use a third-party SMS app, just go into stock messaging and turn off notifications. Don't disable the stock app.
