What the heck happened to AT&T?

I have been waiting for this phone all summer and it is already July 8th and still no release date? The amount of time this is taking is becoming absolutely ridiculous. I am halfway considering going with the Atrix because I feel like I am playing the never ending waiting game here. I am currently on iPOS and I need to be freed!

my theory is verizon is holding all the others up while a cdma version gets made.

att's android lineup is pretty weak right now, though. the atrix is the only dual core they have, and it has a poor/small screen.

i also heard a rumor, take it with salt, that sgs2 might get upgraded to 1.4ghz since it's taking so long.

i agree, they need to hurry up. it is getting ridiculous.

i also remember a few months ago reading about a September release, which seemed like forever at the time. sadly that's looking like it might come true.

AT&T has introduced two new Samsung Android phone. From what I understand the SG2 will hit AT&T August. They saved the best for last! AMazon has them now and they work great on the AT&T network.

The delays in the SGS2 hitting the US market could be attributable to Apple's IP lawsuit against Samsung. Apple claims that the SGS2 is copying UI & other tech from the iPhone. They are seeking an injunction against Samsung selling the infringing products in the US market.

So the carriers are waiting it out -- the last thing they want is to launch the SGS2, then have some judge tell them they can't sell it anymore.

Makes me all the more pleased with buying it while I was in Norway. Got to test it in the store, then bought it. Brought it home and it works great on AT&T.

I know one thing is for sure. If I don't get a release date REAL soon I am going for the Atrix. I have had enough of this it's "coming out next month" bull ****. I have been hearing that since April. It is a crying shame to because I was really looking forward to getting the S2. It is going to be obsolete before it gets released the way they are going right now.

*Also please note that anger is directed at Samsung and the carriers not you guys. If I could say f you and go with another carrier right now I would. Unfortunately it is all of them. I guess I just need to move to another country lol.

You can always buy an unlocked one online and use it on AT&T. No wait and don't have to deal with software being removed and blocked by AT&T so they can sell you their navigator and other services.

also this article Samsung Galaxy S II Delay in U.S. Explained?

it actually makes me pretty mad

That article makes no sense at all.

First of all there was tons of competition to the Galaxy S when it came (Evo, Droid X, just to name two of the biggest), contrary to the article. There's always tons of competition at any time. That's pretty much the point of Android. Do you think HTC didn't release the Evo 3D recently because the LG thrill, Droid Bionic, etc was about to release? Uhh, no.

The main reason the Galaxy S2 is not as attractive to American telecoms as to European ones is phone maker Motorola, which makes phones that work best with the American mobile protocol CDMA.

That makes no sense either because two of the four major carriers use GSM not CDMA. Besides that, Motorola phones are not even all that popular, less popular (less market share) than HTC and Samsung...

That article is bunk.

So you are going to buy an inferior phone?

Boy THAT will teach them a lesson!

The screen on the SG2 was worth the extra moeny I had to pay to buy it on Amazon for use on AT&T!

I think samsung will hold off on the current release of the galaxy s2 and release the 1.4ghz (galaxy S2 Plus) to compete with the iPhone 5's A5. Being their biggest threat why not steal some thunder and release it when apple releases their phone. We should hear something about a U.S. release as soon as Apple comes out with info.

IMO

Lol that would be nice, but it costs WAY too much unlocked. I am not spending that much on a phone.

It is one less sale for them, so yes. What is up with the snide attitude? Is that really necessary?

Ok so I went to the AT&T store and compared the Atrix to the Infuse.(Since it is very similar to GS2 minus the speed) The verdict was that the Atrix is a definite no go. The screen is just too lackluster for me. Also, although it was bearable, I definitely preferred TouchWiz over MotoBlur.

From what I understand the GS2 with the tegra instead of the exynos just cleared the FCC so that one could be making its appearance in the US rather than the version everyone else has.

Over at XDA-developers, someone has gotten hold of a leaked 2.3.4 ROM and found some code suggesting LTE capability was being added for AT&T. I wouldn't expect it to be released for at least another month or two, especially with the Apple lawsuit still unresolved.

too be honest though big corporations dont care about one sale. and it will not make any difference to whether the product is a hit or not. only masses of consumers can do that.

i would advise you to wait for the sgs2. as someone stuck with a "decent but not what i really wanted" phone right now, it sucks. It may seem like forever now, but if you buy that Atrix I bet in a few weeks you'll hear about SGS2 September ATT release announced (or some hypothetical like that), it will be here before you know it, and if you're like me you'll be kicking yourself for two years if you miss it.

The next time I buy a phone on a TWO YEAR contract I'm going to be darn sure it's what I want.

I realize that one sale will not make a big difference. But if several people made the decision not to wait on it, which they are, then that will make a difference. I have already decided to wait though because I looked at the Atrix and the screen was very subpar. I could live with the slightly lesser specs, but not a washed out screen.

Yep, I think the best theory is that the Attain is going to be AT&T's LTE launch device (or at least one of them). I understand they will be ready to light up the initial LTE markets within the next month, they have yet to officially announce any LTE phones and as a "flagship" device the Attain would be a logical choice. If you buy this theory and timing, obviously it would not be a good move to get a Euro SGS2...

I have a quesiton.. I have bought the SGS2 from 2 different vendors (thinking one of the phones was bad) I got them both home and found that in Indiana (even in Indy) that the speeds are nothing... NOTHING compared to the infuse.. I called the 2 different venders and they BOT told me that the phone isnt going to be fast on the USA ATT Network but the phone has everythign anyone would want.. I said WHAT.. They said it is because it isnt a 4G phone at all plus it doesnt play well with H+ at all in the states and recommended I stick with the Infuse.. I checked with ohters and we changed all the settings on the phones to make them as fast as I could and in my town I cant get but maybe 1 1/2 down maybe 2 at the most.. But look at this , look at what I get with the infuse almost EVERY TIME I run it.. WOW can anyone answer this.. I might like the phone when it actually is sold by ATT in the states because then it is meant to work here..

Infuse - 6963 down - 1134 up
SGS2 - 1599 down - 1095 up

Unless you know you live in the last market to get the updated networks, so by the time LTE is in your area the SGS2 will be too old or such. That is my issue it was not even 2 years ago that I finally got 3G in my area, with the areas around my town finally getting 3G in the last year. I don't think I'll see LTE here before I see Quad core phones on the market.

Agreed. And strong HSUPA (if you have it) is pretty good anyway.

There was some speculation news a few weeks ago that dragging negotiations on pricing between Samsung and US carriers are reasons for SGSII delay in US. But I think that alone doesn't really explain it. The more I think of it, Apple lawsuit seems to be behind it and maybe they pressuring AT&T, Verizon to not release it soon.

Yeah I have been contemplating buying it overseas and putting it on AT&T, but if Samsung is going to update the phone with LTE I might just hold out. If I wait until the release, I will probably switch back to Verizon with the Galaxy Function.
