Last night at bedtime my phone was 80 something percent charged and working fine. This morning, it is black. The screen does not light up after I press the button on top. I cannot get any response at all from it. What is wrong? It was perfectly fine last night. Nothing unusual happened to it. I do not understand what is happening. Please help!

Thanks,
HunnieBunnie

Have you tried pressing the power button for ten seconds? That is called a hard reset. Try that and see what happens, if you haven't already.

Hi Pandacookie,

I tried it, and the phone powered up! The battery is at 81%, so I know it was not the battery. Have you any idea why the phone behaved this way? Is it defective? Should I bring it to the store??

Thanks!

Not sure. The only thing I can think of is that the phone could have been in deep sleep. It happens sometimes. I would say bring it to the store if it happens again, to be on the safe side.

If anyone wants to chime in, feel free. Because I could be wrong, here.

Hey HunnieBunnie,

I am going to assume that you do not reboot your phone often.
Well, EVERY phone must be rebooted every now and then.
Dr.'s orders:
Reboot phone every 3-4 days. Shouldn't happen again.

Cheers! :)

Hi sammyz,

I presume you mean turn it off and on again?

I have another question. Last night I fell asleep with it on the charger. I did not remember to take it off the charger until lunch time today! Does that hurt the phone? It appears to be okay at the moment. I will try not to do that again, though.

Thanks.

No it doesn't hurt the phone, but if your charger has a short (wires touching inside that shouldn't be) it can easily fry this phone. It has happened to several already including one of mine and other members of this site. Do not buy cheap branded chargers. Stay with OEM chargers. Get chargers made by: Motorola/Samsung/LG that come with the USB cable and AC to USB adapter.

I wouldn't trust any OEM chargers made by ZTE/Huawei. The phones are made in China...

I have to say, there have been times that I used an Apple charger, they aren't bad either, as long as you have a good USB to microUSB cable.

Thank you! That is a relief to know. I certainly will try not to do it again, though. I am using the charger that came with the phone, but if it fails, I will try to purchase one made by LG. My automobile charger was just one that MetroPCS sold me. I am sure it is probably made in China.

I seldom ever use it. My phone is not used a whole lot, and I have noticed that if it is not used a lot on any particular day, it takes the entire day for the battery to run down. Someone told me never to let the battery run completely down to zero. Why is that?

Because it seems some of these phones don't want to wake up at all after it reaches a true 0...which I've never had this problem..

And that car charger made in china, probably will fry your phone, it fried mine.

HB,

Sammy is right about the 0 part but most phones will shut down Before you actually get to 0 for just that reason.

That being said, the type of battery we use is more heavily stressed when it gets very low. Very low as far as I can find out is anything below 15%. Allowing a badry to constantly get very low won't affect it's charging or use but it Will shorten it's useful lifespan.

I am no expert by any means but what I did with mine was when brand new, when the phone's battery sensing is settling down, I let the phone get down to around 10% for the first 4-5 full recharges. After that I do not let the badry go below 15% without recharging it.

On China, I wouldn't worry so much about a major carrier brand that has stuff made in China (ie; Apple) but I'd stay away from all the unbranded stuff from China on Fleabay and Amazon.

Okay, bearing in mind what you chaps told me about turning the phone off and then on again every two or three days, I have been doing this. I turned it off and then back on again a few minutes later on Sunday.

It was almost fully charged last night upon retiring, but this morning, once again it was just black. I had to hold down the power button to restart again. This is about the third time this has happened, and considering that I powered it off and on again just 24 hours or less before, I do not understand why it did this again. Also, I noticed today that it is not sending me that notifying sound once a new email or text comes in. Any ideas what is happening?

Thanks.

It might just need a factory reset or a reflash of firmware (not the same as factory reset). It's probably an app gone bad.
Is your phone rooted? Maybe it just needs a reflash of firmware.

I would try reflashing firmware first since it won't erase anything except root if you rooted your phone.

Hi Sammy,

I have no expertise to root the phone, so no it is not rooted. Do I take it to the store to be "reflashed, or is there just something on a menu on the phone that allows me to do that?

Thanks.
