Help What the hell just happened?! Lost functionality

A few minutes ago my s2 went insane.it restarted and now almost nothing works.
Swype is gone. The central button doesn't work. Holding down the power button doesn't give me any options any more - i used to be able to mute and turn off phone data from there. furthermore the keyboard doesn't behave properly as you can tell from the gibberish that the last thing is now putting full stop the only way I can enter data on this bloody thing iswith the voice command which inexplicably does work what is happening!!!!??? This is a blackberry level event.

Yeah, that fixed it. I did lose the last two weeks of texts and contact numbers though. Awesome.

True. I did manage to recover some of the numbers - so those invoices might get paid!

Have you tried to reboot your phone before performing factory reset?

I tried rebooting, and I tried pulling the battery for a couple of minutes. This didn't fix any of the weird problems. I also tried to connect up to the PC to do a backup, but it's twitchy at the best of times.

The factory reset did work though.
