What to do after rooting??

Hi,
I am completely new to Android and I want to learn about this system, so bear with me with my newbie question.

I want to root my samsung galaxy gio, as I want to get the most out of it. But I can't find any information what I can do after it is rooted. Will there come up new functions enabling to do more adjustment, or do I need to install other apps allowing me to get more control of the device?

thanks in advance

Some apps require root to work, like some tether apps, certain screenshot apps, full backup apps etc.

My advice is to NOT root the phone, especially since you are a newbie and just use the phone. Think of rooting only when you encounter a need for something that requires root. Note that being rooted also gives malicious apps greater freedom to create problems on your phone.

Thanks for the reply chanchan,

I am still searching for answers to learn what I obtain by rooting. It doesn't sound so bad to get more control of my device, I have already full control of my laptop and its good as I can also learn more about Android when I have more control about it.

I like to use my Samsung device not just for make calls, but also use it for games and apps that I might in the feature find them interesting to have.

You said: "Think of rooting only when you encounter a need for something that requires root." What kind of needs can one encounter?

You can remove apps that came pre installed on your device that you don't want (do this with caution), you can install AdFree to get rid of ads in free apps, and once you are comfortable you can look into custom ROMs and kernels for your phone which will allow more functionality and allow you to do things like overclock your CPU.

Thansk for the reply chrlswltrs,
It sounds more like Jailbreaking as it is said for iPhone, plus more features.
How is it possible to look in ROM and kernel?

If it is difficult or long to explain it, can you recommend a link to learn more about it.

Thanks in advance
