Root What to do when rooted?

Hello I'm new to the forum and was wondering how to root my nexus 7. Also I was wondering what I can do with a rooted nexus 7 what are the advantages and disadvantages to rooting what can I do when I root my device and what are some of the features it offers?

Welcome to the forums vPooch. :ciao::beer:

The easiest way to root is to use the Nexus Root Kit. Scroll to the bottom of the post and click on the link for NZTechFreak's guide for using the root kit.

After rooting there are a lot of apps you can use that require root. For instance, Titanium Backup for backing up apps and other useful functions, ES File Explorer for file management, Stickmount which allows you to hook a thumb drive or other storage with the right cable, AdAway for getting rid of Ads. The list goes on and on.

Rooting gives you more options with your device. Like being an administrator on your PC.

The disadvantage is it voids your warranty, however, you can load the stock rom and put it back just like the day you got it. Rooting is not foolproof. You can have problems like boot loops or soft bricking, but if you just read and follow instructions it isn't difficult to root. It also seems fairly easy to fix problems using the Root Kit if something goes wrong.

I enjoy rooting because I like fiddling with things. :D

lol .. I understand. I rooted my first smart phone about 7 months ago. It was nerve racking. :D

No hurry. Its good to research and read read read. :)

I want to just worried haha I'll probably wait a couple days and learn about it abit more

One thing to keep in mind is that when you unlock the bootloader, it wipes the entire device. All your media (photos, movies, music) will be deleted. This is why most folks recommend unlocking your device very early on.
Obviously, you can backup all your media to your PC, but it can be a little tedious. This has been one of the easiest Androids I've rooted. Good luck! :)

Don't even stress about bricking.I bricked my 7 within two hours of getting it screwing with LCD density modder (stupid app *deleted* build.prop......)... Took me less than an hour to get back to where I bricked it and beyond...

As for reasons to root, there are dozens, if not hundreds. Among them, and right at the top for me is the ability to change from phablet to tablet ui. People say a lot of apps become incompatible, but I haven't found them yet.. When I run into such an app, I plan to return build.prop to 213dpi and reboot long enough to install said problematic app, then reboot back into 160dpi again..

On my phone, the most useful root app is Gemini App Manager. It can diddle the intents of other apps to keep them from being started by all the absurd events some apps seem to feel they need to keep track of. This works infinitely better than a task killer because the offending tasks never get started in the first place, yet I can leave them on my phone and run them manually when I actually need/want them.
