Root What us TUN

I just saw Chevy's new kernal's have the option of downloading TUN with them in ROM Manager. What is this and why would I need it?

*What IS TUN...not us.

Seems like it's a protocol of some sort that lets you connect to VPN's and such. I'm sure someone will come along that knows more about it.

TUN/TAP - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Not really savvy on this stuff personally, but I'm pretty sure that's the type of thing it's referring to.

There's a number of 'modules' I guess that you can use like TUN and ext2 and some others. I don't really know anything about it. I and a couple others had asked this about a month ago in Chevy's thread at DroidForums.net and never got a response. I'm assuming many are unfamiliar with it.

TUN simulates a network layer 3 device (router) so it supports routing tables, VLANs and such. If you don't require VPN access from work or something you don't need TUN :D

i asked about this an droidforums and chevy replied- if you dont know what it is, you dont need it. it is an option for those who do. lol
