What version of Android would a new Droid come with?

The Droid (the original one, not the X or 2) was updated to 2.1 months ago. New Droids that are bought today, do they still come with 2.01 or do they all come stock with 2.1?

I suppose that would depend upon their date of manufacture and date of shipping....

But I would not be surprised if VZW is opening them and installing the new OS on them before selling them....

I bet as soon as they are activated, they will be pushed the latest and greatest version.

They will come with at least 2.1, possibly 2.2 depending on how long it takes Google to finalize the 2.2 code and motorola to adjust it for the Droids.

EDIT: I should have read your post better. I thought you were referring to Droid 2 and Droid X whereas you specifically said you were not.
