I had a very dumb phone... LG Vu. New to Android and not looking back 
Symbien S60V3-S60V5.
And I'm done with Nokia series phone, my Captivate should arrive some time this week and i'm very excited.
I played with my coworker Moto Milestone and it was like night and day compare to my X6.
From the spec, Captivate should even exceed that. Symbien 3 is coming out with the new N8 but I'm done falling for that trap again. I think personally Nokia had fallen too far behind and been making a weak attempt to catch up. Mediocre hardware, screen resolutions, and applications support make it easy to goes Android or Iphone. The GPS work great but supported by inaccurate maps (OVI). Sorry about the vent, but the more i read about android, i just pity myself for sticking with Nokia.

I am not sure why you lumped the 3G and 2G iphone together. Very different and they were selling the 3G alongside the 3GS until the 4 came out.
I had a 3G and i dont miss it at all.

iPhone 2G...It wasn't love at first sight, but then again, I got it for free, then it was magical. Three years later, I still love that phone, but yeah, with new technologies, my phone looks crappy now. I still got it though =D

Got tired of carrying a phone and PDA so I bought a Cingular 8125.
Then 3Gs
Had a iP4 for 3 weeks and sent it back because it had multiple problems and didn't trust SJ that software was going to fix them. After reading about 4.1, it looks like the problems still exist.
I've had the Captivate for almost 2 months and love it!

Nokia 5800 S60. The hardware of the Nokia seems better made. The speakers are sooooo much better on the Nokia. I detest the sound quality of the Captivate's puny external speaker. Evo 4g > Captivate, too.
Software wise, and for screen, the Captivate is the big winner, of course.

iPhone 2g and 3g were essentially the same in terms of hardware. The only significant difference was the network connectivity and GPS.
I moved to Cap after iPhone 2g, and could already never go back to iOS... but would still recommend iOS to non tech-savvy friends and family over android.
