Help What Weather App Do You Use?

It works just fine with gps off, i never turn gps on unless i am using google navigation. Its not needed and drains the battery quicker.

I do let it get updates in the background. In fact when a severe weather notification comes through it will play your notification sound so you know right away what is going on. Its quite a handy feature to have. It also displays the current temp in the top notification bar. You can change the color of the temp via the settings. I changed it to white and it shows up much better.

Just a tip -- if you like the HTC weather/flip clock but need more functionality/info you can get Weather Widget Donate and then you can get the forecast add on for free which will let you link any app such as Weather Channel to get more detailed info. So basically what you do is tap the weather on the widget and then it will bring up a 3 day forecast along with a big animation of the current weather, then you tap the 3 day forecast and it opens whatever app you decide to link.

P.S. You can get a decent amount of skins for the clock and weather icons also.

Stop wasting your time turning GPS on and off manually. It is only running when an app is asking to use it and you see the little satellite in the notification bar. It is NOT running in the background otherwise.

I use WB Elite, best weather app IMHO. However, I have My Location turned OFF, and just setup my home location and use that. I don't travel outside that range enough to warrant the extra battery hit of it searching for my location, by either cell towers or GPS.

This is true, GPS doesn't function unless you have a app which is actually using it. If your weather app is setup to use GPS then it will only activate when it has determined (through cell towers) that you have moved to a new location.

I currently am using the Stock weather app.

The reason I don't like it is because it is attached to a clock for a 90 year old.

Can you remove the clock widget and just have the weather, or is it an all-in-one?

I searched the market and I see the weather channel and the weather bug.

Anyone use these instead? I have used weather bug on my pc in the past and I found it was terrible - almost malware like - always stuck in the background sucking memory and looking ugly.

:)

You can just show the weather widget (select Widget>Weather and it will give you a few options without the clock attached)

For a better weather proggie, Weather Bug Elite was my preference over the others by a wide margin.

Or you can try Beautiful Widgets which will give you different options for the clock.

Also, keep in mind you have 24 hrs to 'return" any app to the market, so don't be afraid of trying them out and seeing which one YOU like the most.

Why go through the hassle of buying another widget app linking them and then reskinning the widget? Seems like alot of hassle to me, expecially since i can just install weatherbug elite and with just a couple clicks have it all setup. This one app was the one i missed the most when i went without an android phone for over a week. This and mlb at bat have made my life so much easier. You can also get live video feeds of local cameras to see what it looks like outside and theres forcast videos posted daily, the chick that does them is pretty hot as well.

I personally would like to ditch the stock clock/weather widget if I could find a nice standalone clock widget. But, so far no dice :-(

You don't need a clock widget the time is displayed at the top on the notification bar. You could also remove it and use the 2x1 digital widget by htc. That one at least takes up less space.

I like a big clock and the date is a nice thing to have, also the stock 1x1 cal is ugly.

The wb 4x1 would look so nice under a full sized HTC Hero-type clock.

(Man, I had to double and triple check the spelling on that first line!)

Clock widget 5 of 12 is only 2x1 (2 across, 1 down) and has a bigger time and includes the date and city.

Does the WB elite widget do the animated weather thing like the HTC one does? I'm sure I'm a dork, but I love that animation.

No it doesn't animate the weather, i guess that would be the only flaw i can think of, but its not a big deal. Just another battery eater imo.

Haven't seen anything as good as the stock widget. The animations are pure eyecandy, but it adds something pretty cool to the homescreen.

What about the nexus one weather that is on the web commercials? Minute by minute forecasting... Can we get that app/widget for the droid incredible?

I use Weather Channel as well, but after seeing some screen shots of WeatherBug in this thread, I may download the free one and run it side by side the Weather Channel.

i use the beautiful smaller home version of beautiful widgets. i think a clock is redundant since its on the upper right, but removing a clock widget removes easy access to the alarm features etc. the stock htc weather app doesnt possess the depth of information of a dedicated app. beautiful smaller home allows you to touch the clock part and open the clock app, touch the date to open the calendar, and choose which specific weather application you want to open by touching the weather portion of the widget
