What will it take for you to switch from the bionic?

Illustrating what John said ... attached is a screen shot Using Titanium Backup Pro on my un-root-ed Bionic.

This illustrates it the best.

The Astro app is a good way to investigate the file structure in an un-rooted Bionic.

Ok well, I'm going to, hopefully, South Korea to study abroad in the summer and Thailand in August. I'm hoping there is a global phone out there for me somewhere.

If any of you were me, what phone would you suggest getting? The fighter looks like a winner...but what phones work globally...? I have never looked into such things..

Sorry to resurrect a dead thread but better than making a new one, right?

Also, the painful thing is that I can overclock to 1.375mhz with minor problems, making this a sad change :(.

Droid 3 - 3G-only.

Droid 4 - 3G/4G - did they correct the problem yet?

South Korea is CDMA, so actually the Bionic should work where there is CDMA coverage. See Calling From South Korea

Thailand has some CDMA for voice only - no data - though with a world phone, you can roam with GSM: Calling From Thailand

Check out the pricing for calls, texts and data on those pages, though - it's expensive.

The only Verizon Android world phones currently available are the DInc2, the Droid 3, and the Droid Pro. (There are also some Blackberries, the HTC Trophy Windows phone, and the iPhone 4S.) The Droid 4 is supposed to get world features later this year, though they haven't defined how yet (ie., voice over LTE? that would allow roaming only in countries with LTE, though.)

Verizon has a rental program, but they say that it is cost effective for trips of 3 weeks or less.

If you have a world phone that has a GSM SIM, they ship with a Vodafone SIM card with a GSM slot that is locked to that card. If your account is in good standing with Verizon (ie, no late charges) and you have had an account for (I believe) over 10 months, Verizon will allow you to unlock the SIM slot for any non-US SIM, so you could purchase a local GSM SIM card in Thailand for voice and data while you are there.

It's best, though, to call Verizon and talk to them about all of this.

(You can also buy an unlocked GSM phone for use in Thailand with a local SIM card...)

What's sad is all Motorola 4g phones have the gsm/cdma combo chip but it doesn't work. The iphone 4 also had this chip but no sim slot.
