What would Droid Root do for You?

I'm wondering myself. Its gotta be good to warrant voided warranty/risk (though not sure how much risk there is, as never rooted/owned android before and jailbreaking was a joke).

If it includes multitouch and/or "proprietary" apps from other phones it may be a sale for me. Not sure what else a custom rom could do that would tempt me off the tracks, anyone have any ideas/possibilities?

+1...I'd really like to know the main advantages of rooting...I know of a few, and they are below, but are not enough for me to root...

1) Allows (not sure on Droid) Apps to SD (with an app installed on rooted Droid)
2) Allows flashing to different Roms...Still not quite sure how this works. If I rooted my Droid, and there was a version of Sense UI for 2.0/2.01, could I use that without any issues?
3) Can do Hax0r stuff (not really interested unless there was a killer app that I wanted that would require it)

@ OP, good post for a first time smartphone/android user :)

So we'd get more multi-touch. Nice for picture viewing. Lots of things seem to be picking it up already though (dolphin browser, picsay). And wondering if, once the (multitouch) keyboard is on the market, if this will be necessary?
