i put this in one other thread but felt it would be better here. i have my 4th phone that i rooted for the update and now it needs to go back. i have the replacement already, number 5, i reverted back to stock but the about phone page is different. what would you do?

i dont believe this post is violating any rules here if so mods remove. and pm me an answer.

FXZ (apparently released by Motorola seven days after the Bionic went on sale) is supposed to take you back to the state it was in when you bought it. I have not installed any of the leaks and have not tried FXZ.

yeah, I've updated, and as a part of the advanced testing phase from Motorola I'm going ot try doing exactly that to see if it truly reverts me to full stock or not.

Give me a day or so to get it all tested and I can report back.
 
Once you have updated you can not get back to stock. You will have the updated kernel and radio until a newer build comes out and you flash that.

Hmmm. I may be on to something here.

The original Full FXZ file contains three very interesting files:

Motoboot.img (I'm assuming that this is the bootloader)
radio.img (I'm assuming this is the baseband firmware)
boot.img (I believe this is the kernel).

In a subfolder called OTA, there is also a file called
LTE.img (I assume this is the Baseband LTE Firmware)

I will probably try this later tonight, I have too much other stuff to do now - but I'm definitely hopeful.

Can anyone on a fully stock system report back to me the following data from their phone(Setting s--> About phone)?

  • System version:
  • Baseband version:
  • Webtop version:
  • Kernel version:
  • Build number:

For example, mine currently reports (5.7.893):

  • System version: 5.7.893.XT875.Verizon.en.US
  • Baseband version: CDMA_n_03.1C.57R LTEDC_U_05.15.02
  • Webtop version: WT-1.3.0-108_DBN-21
  • Kernel version: 2.6.35.7-g68606e6 vwm736@il93lnkdroid43 #1

John ... I'm glad you're doing this ... the answer is very important for figuring out how it is being approached by Motorola and Verizon.

John just be careful DroidTh3ory was messing with boot.img and tried to flash a modified version and blew the e-fuse.
 
This is a stock boot.img - the entire file is stock. it's the Full FXZ file in my sig ( 684 MB) that was released like 3 days after the BIONIC was.

100% pure stock.
 
I have my fingers crossed for you ... there is no way to tell what it might be examining before it installs and doing with that information during or after the install.

That's what I'm hoping this method avoids - actually looking at eFUSE and trying to circumvent it - I hope it just is recognized as the official file and replaces everything.

I'm in the process of making backups and whatnot - I have 200+ apps installed, so this is quite a painful experiment for me to under take - but I'm willing to take one for the team here.
 
just wanted to thank you for trying to see how to fix this issue. i am prob sending back the one they sent me . i dont want to be charged for not having the right s/w. if you do see that this works please let me know.

i have moved this to all things root, as i was reading it noticed you were rooted trying to ge t to stock, if you feel this is in error please use the report button. thank you.

BTW, no dice on reverting - if you've applied the update, the FXZ method fails hard core at the first step - which is writing the boot image.

I did it both methods, Moto-fastboot and RSDLite using the full FXZ file.

A partial file should work, but it will only revert the system image. Kernel, Baseband and WebTop will not change. And if the partial file attempts to change kernel and baseband, it will still fail the process.

This thing is hard core changed.
 
I do appreciate the attempt. Moto sent me an email saying the update is 60 days out. Do u think they would see the change
 
Well, seeing as we cannot revert, and seeing as an update is imminent, I'm hoping that they slate he update to work on all versions of system software, kernel, baseband, and Webtop previous to what is out both official and leaked.

if not, there are a lot of us gonna be really pissed.

If they were to unlock the bootloader it would be nice, but I'm not holding my breath at this point.
