Help What's Going On With This Phone?

How do you tell if there's an application running in the background that you don't know about?

My reason for asking is that a couple of times now my HTC Evo V G4 has become very hot, which causes the battery to drain rather quickly.

Yesterday it happened while I had it sitting in the sleep mode on the table. I didn't know it until I went to make a phone call. The phone was actually dead because the battery had drained.

Today it happened while it was in my pocket. I felt the heat build up so I was able to turn the phone off before my battery completely drained.

Could I have inadvertently turned something on while it was in my pocket or before sitting it on my work table?

I'm wondering if there's some application running that I don't know about that's causing it to heat up and drain my battery.

You can use the Task Manager app (assuming that your phone is stock) or hold down the home button and swipe left or right to close recent apps

It's this crappy ass Sprint network that is probably the cause of your problem.
This is my 2nd attempt at this response because when I'm indoors and my signal goes to -120, I have to reboot because it freezes the signal.
But when I'm in a bad coverage area, which is almost anywhere, my phone on 3g gets to between 110

I guess it's true that no matter how bad you have it, there's always someone else who is faring much worse.

I'm sorry to hear about you coverage problems. I believe my situation stems from a bad cell phone rather than bad coverage in my area.

VM has now set in motion the delivery of a new replacement phone for me. I'm hoping that the new smart phone they send will be better than the smart phone that's been giving me fits during the three short weeks I've owned it.

On my end of these dealing, what makes it doubly frustrating is that I'm new to smart phones and having to figure out the problems I've encountered makes me feel absolutely stupid.

I've assumed that my smart phone problems were mostly user error since I'm new to this technology but, at some point we all realize that these smart phones are just as dumb as the basic cell phones we traded up from if you can't figure out how to use them. We can't figure out how to figure them out.

I am the poster boy for living in a weak signal area. My signal in the remote area I live in runs from 0-1 bars 24 hours a day. NEVER has this caused my phone to heat up at any time, and standby time without using the phone runs about 48+ hours with 2 push email accounts getting emails every few hours (with vibrate notifications).

I have used wifi tether with bluetooth on while playing games and it does not heat up.

There is either something wrong with the phone/battery or you have something in the apps causing a conflict and stressing out the hardware.

The only app this smart phone has had that didn't come pre-installed was an app called Z Device; or something like that.

I used it to test the sensors on my Evo V because of another problem I was- and still am having- with this phone.

Both problems were being displayed by my phone before and after installing this app. I uninstalled it immediately after running the diagnostics on the sensors on this phone just to eliminate the app as a cause or contributor to my phone's symptoms.

I can't wait to have a phone that actually works as it's supposed to. All will be right with the world again.

All I know is that like right now, my signal strength is fluxiing, and after 34 minutes of reading messages on sites using 3g, my battery went from 100% to 73%, and the temp is 102
