What's new on 2.3.5?

plum

Hi

After struggling with Kies, i finally managed to ypgrade to 2.3.5

Apart from the blue tinge, is there anything else people have noticed that is new?

There are more icons on top of the screen, like the speaker sign showed during 'sound off' and other icons improved.

Another thing is that Kies actually works for me in 2.3.5 on Win7-64! I can syncronise AND copy music now.

You can now set the Lock Screen time out duration. Very handy and now means I dont need to use the 'NoLock' app'.

Also you can set the SMS text background to white as well as black.

And you can now store contacts to SIM as well as phone.

How do you do that?

Good question. I thought it was disabled in 2.3.5.

No. It's there in 2.3.5...

From the home screen, SMS > Menu button > Settings > Background color. And you'll have the option of white text on black background or black text on white background.

I was hoping they'd give the option of changing the bubble colour too...

you have 2 forms of power save mode. The usual power save mode that turns on at 10, 20, 30 % or whatever. and a system power saving mode. Which basically underclocks the phones performance improving battery life. I think its what it does anyway. very nice

Yea that system Power saving option could come in handy but the performance reduction is noticeable when moving between menus/screens

OK Remeniz, I'll let you off! :D

I thought you meant the bubble colour choices in earlier versions.

How do you do this?

I know how to set the time before the screen turns off, but i want to change (extend) the duration between when the screen has turned off and the phone locks itself.

Ideally, i would like the phone to never lock itself except for when i press the power button and to dim the screen in 15-30 seconds. This would then be the same as my old blackberry and make me a happy bunny.

Menu > Settings > Location and security. In the 'Screen unlock settings' section go to 'Timeout' and set the delay for the lock screen.

Mine is set to 10 mins and means I can use the phone without having to input my password all the time but if I wanna lock my phone I press the power button.

Just out of curiosity, what's with all the 2.3.5 talk? Is it rolling out on another region/carrier? Still on 2.3.4 on the unlocked version, being used in the US. No updates available on KIES or OTA for me yet.

Thank you for your reply.

I tried the above (Menu > Settings > Location and security) and the only option I have under "Screen unlock settings" is "Set Up Screen Lock", which takes me to a new screen with the options 1) None, 2) Pattern 3) Pin 4) Password. I tried setting up a pin password, then retrying the above...same options appear.

If i go Menu > Display > Screen Time-out i can set how long until the screen dims which i have at 30 seconds.

What i'm looking for is a setting that can change (read: extend) the duration between the screen dimming and the phone locking. Ideally I would like to be able to use the power button exclusively to lock the screen.

Are there any apps which can change this interim setting? I've tried around 5 apps and although when active these apps prevent the phone from automatically locking itself after dimming the screen they also prevent the power button from locking the phone...

Any suggestions welcomed by a new to android user (and never going back to RIM!)

PS. I am definitely using (Menu > Settings > About Phone >) Android version 2.3.5

I have that option. I'm on 2.3.5 on O2 if that helps....

Menu > Settings > Location and security, will bring you to this screen...

Select the Timeout arrow... ;)

So my screen dims, i've set that to 15 seconds, and my phone locks after 10 mins.... or when I push the power button.

:D

Thank you so much for replying again!

This is so odd...my phone has a different menu to yours! I too am with 02 and am defo running 2.3.5!

My menu:
attachment.php

^^ no option to change time out...not even greyed out!

Why on earth would my phone have a different menu to you? Does anyone know what I can do to get these extra options?

I don't suppose your phone is 'rooted'? I've heard that term kicked around a few times...no idea what it means though but i understand it lets you do extra things.

Thanks,

OK - I figured this out.

1) I made sure I had a password set.
2) Rebooted the phone...menu like yours appeared.

:D Thank you again buddy,

Not sure the text background changer even works. I've tried it a few times and it still remains a black background. (shrug)

Excellent. Maybe the option is there when you set the unlock password.
This is also available on the 2.3.4 version, just tried setting a password and the 'timeout' tab appears also (don't have to reboot for this after setting password)

I am also only on 2.3.4. I have an unlocked brand free phone in the UK.
Have people updated via Odin to 2.3.5? Kies says I have the latest firmware but it's only 2.3.4.

I am using 2.3.5, here in the U.S. I started out on 2.3.3 and upgraded to 2.3.4 on Kies. 2.3.4 messed a lot of things up for me -- especially the screen resolution.

I installed a leaked version of 2.3.5 official Samsung ROM. Works like a charm.

Just had a look and it's only the bit where you type that changes colour when you choose another setting (i.e. the "tap to enter message" box.
