What's the deal with root

Looks like no one wants to help us

I don't think it's a matter of no one wanting to help you, it's just that most of us cannot. Keep in mind that that the ZTE Obsidian is a relatively low-end, bargain-priced phone with specs that appropriately fall into that category. It's a model that's targeting a select type of usage, and correspondingly something that might not appeal to most hobbyists. Establishing a workable rooting process and developing a ROM for any phone isn't a trivial process either, it takes time and effort. Have you done a search elsewhere?

Sure when you purchase the phone with a new account it cost twenty bucks but if you buy it and your not do for an upgrade they want$110 WTF?!!! So while yes it may be a "low grade phone" it cost way too much for developers not to invest time for a proper root procedure.

We've attempted over at XDA to use Kingroot which every new build of gets to 18% and then stops working after 2 days and we've attempted to flash SuperSU with stock recovery but no luck (yet)

Any updates? I tried to root it through various apps the other day, taking up to three hours...I've spent so much time researching it as well, it seems that you have to pay to get a code to unlock your phone, but I've seen sites that claim you can do it another way. I am almost about to give up.

Also, the only reason I want to root this phone is to move the bloatware over to my sd card. I'm always at a critical point storage wise.

Kingroot 4.9.2 roots this phone. No PC required. SuperSUme pro V may very well kick KR out of the way recommend deleting Kingroots data under apps within setting UI, however the option to delete KR data this way wouldn't allow me to click the delete data button-in other words for myself at least the option to do so was "greyed" out if you will. Rendering the delete data option unable to press/manuvor. Tried deleting KR data from within various root user file managers. As a very knowledgeable source suggested to delete KR data after Kingrooting the device then re-rooting by way of KR once again after initial KR success then putting device on airplane mode and finally running SuperSUme pro v 9.3.8 which is the latest v of supersume pro. I myself have been unable to locate or enquire about a custom recovery for the Z820 which makes this procedure rather risky in my opinion yet a member of A.F. whos knowledge to the subject is rather extensive and trustworthy. However I have good news That Kingo, not King but (Kingo) root at least the latest version does in fact root the Z820 guaranteed because I just rooted this device with (Kingo) One needs to DL Kingo User before rooting with kingo. in other words just make sure Kingo User off playstore is downloaded and installed and icon is within app drawer then use Kingo rooting apk by clicking root. Worked for me on second attempt. Then just run SuperSU apk over top of Kingo after kingo root success and then you will be rooted by Gollners supersu now. delete any left over Kingo data/offiliated firmware that may be left over reboot and now you're Z820 is rooted by way of SuperSU. I'm currently enquiering/working on/ searching for a working recovery. TWRP, CWM, PHILZ etc. Ive read of there being a stock ROM for this device but what I was reading was a little unclear as to whether this "stock ROM" and/or ROMs were/are intact just the ZTE built stock rom that comes installed from factory or infact a rooted stock ROM that has been built after being rooted and put out there for our ability to DL and use. Which of course would require a custom recovery to intact flash and run. So to make an already rather long post short or rather drawing to my final point and/of information on the subject of rooting this device. Kingo works that I can positively confirm. As I have just done so just as I have explained above. just follow the provided and rather detailed steps I have just given. Working on recovery now..... So to all who want to root this device and infact by SuperSU in place of Kingo Just follow the steps I have provided....... Now we need recovery. So a rooted debloated stock rom can be built and in fact flashed. Then Custom ROMs/Kernels etc. [emoji6]

Kingo roots this device without question I assure you as does Kingroot. Another gentleman mentioned kingo root working for them at the beginning of the OP. The problem most folks have in succeeding with Kingo is one needs to have Kingo User off of play store installed before rooting. Yes it may still take more than one attempt. But it does work because I've just rooted my mothers Z820 by way of kingo on second try. Would have probably rooted with success first attempt. Yet much like when I was the first to successfully "one click" root the ZTE Concord 2 no PC required. Kingo User must be installed first. It just works this way. [emoji6] Enjoy being rooted by SuperSU now. [emoji3]

Kingo root with latest updated version (AFTER) installing Kingo User from playstore. Then simply DL and install supersu over kingo. may take more than one attempt, took me two attempts. In my honest opinion Kingo is the go to root tool. its just safer has SU included within its latest update now which helps with apks that require su to function such as flashify I. order to flash and install recovery. If flashify gives you any issues which it should not now that kingo is built with a SU v within its firmware. But when a custom recovery is available and should flashify not work due to su not being there/recognized by an apk which as I have previously stated shouldn't give you any issues due to Kingo having SU included now. Should you run into any issue with flashify use rashr. that's the tool I had to use on the concord 2 to successfully flash TWRP due to flashify not recognizing SU. but su is now included in Kingo. Again you just need to have Kingo User installed before rooting or root won't take. This is the main issue with ppl having issues rooting with success using Kingo. Hope this helps everybody.... Now go get ur SuperSU on folks!!!

KINGO!!! use kingo. Installing KingoUser first no need to touch kingo user jus make sure its installed and its icon is within you're apk drawer. then DL super SU and kick kingo out the way straight up. Now go Get you're SU on!!!

This phone is junk. Been trying to root since buying it and it's
not possible
yes phone is very low end but you guys do have root no PC needed. And we can move kingo right out of the way safe & easy installing SuperSU right over kingo. then delete any left ovet kingo folders with file manager of choice. what we need is recovery now folks!
