What's the deal with root

Sure when you purchase the phone with a new account it cost twenty bucks but if you buy it and your not do for an upgrade they want$110 WTF?!!! So while yes it may be a "low grade phone" it cost way too much for developers not to invest time for a proper root procedure.

Currently rooting with
Kingo Android Root and things seem to be going fine.

I'll post again when it's all finished.

[Update: Kingo Root Failed 3 time at 70-80%. Going to keep looking, next will try Root Genius]

you have to have kingo user installed before ALL else then use kingo to root. then simply run gollners super su over kingo reboot and enjoy being rooted with super su!!! [emoji6] Enjoy now my man enjoy!!!

We've attempted over at XDA to use Kingroot which every new build of gets to 18% and then stops working after 2 days and we've attempted to flash SuperSU with stock recovery but no luck (yet)

You can't flash anything without first being rooted. And its impossible to flash from stock recovery the option doesn't even igsist.

4.9.2 is latest kingo v. Google it its the very first link up top. Install Kingo user first. Dont ask me why or anything about there not or in fact there being info on this "route" lol. I just stumbled upon kingo and Kingo user apk and installing and trying to root with and without kingouser installed first/second it seams to work/root a given device that its able which is most these days. if you install kingos root right granting apk Kingo is safer to move supersu in that first. Kingroot is I tell you that. So with that being said Its nice to see a few good trusty "One click root apks out these days.

Working on custom recovery now. Already successfully compiled. Will have to flash via dd as there is no fastboot or bootloader mode. Havent flashed my phone yet. Waiting til i upgrade to a samsung next week. Also porting cm 12.1 and since zte provides source will be making custom kernel as well.

Need volunteers to test the above. Please send me a pm.

Unfortunately got the infamous 101 error when trying to boot to recovery. Reflashed with stock recovery. Why does ZTE provide the kernel source code for the Z820 but no unlocked bootloader? Once I figure out how to get around this error we should be good with a recovery image and unofficial CM 12.1 port.
