I should do once I get my Nexus on Tuesday? Am replacing an LG Ally running Velocity 1.2 with no working physical keys except the power button (and that replaced a Droid Incredible that six months ago had force close meltdown that I could not repair, and my brother-in-law who programs Android for a living could not repair).

Is it worth rooting at this time, or should I wait for the JB update to improve the radios? I tend to work in big brick buildings that get spotty reception at best (even on the Dinc). Is rooting and running Xenon or BB going to improve the reception issues reported on the Nexus?

When you need a phone as badly as I did, you get the best available that you can afford, so the Nexus it is.

Flashing a newer radio may/May not improve reception. The ROM, I don't believe has anything to do with signal performance.

But if you do plan on rooting it, I'd do it right out the box. When you unlock the bootloader it wipes the SD card partition.

This device is made to be rooted, so yes, you definitely should. But just be careful. Although it's nearly impossible to brick this phone, it can still happen.

I rooted the Ally using adb since none of the hard buttons work (at least I can make/receive calls on it). That was frustrating...especially with no buttons working.

I want to make sure I can root but still get the OTA with the new radios when VZW finally gets around to pushing out JB. This phone needs to last me 2 1/2 - 3 years so I can wiggle my wife and I off of a contract and go to the cheaper prepaid options (she's six months behind me, and is stuck on an Ally until her line can upgrade, too).
