Whats the front facing camera for??

does anybody even use their front facing camera? i thought it was so cool when i bought my Evo but i never use it. I thought i would have Skype but nope not on android. And fring and qik only are like Evo to Evo.. Would be cool if thier were other options. Unless iam missing something?

You arent missing something, Skype went exclusive with VZ (which doesnt have a front mounted camera phone) and they blocked Fring from using it. Unfortunately nobody has stepped up to the plate and snatched that market by creating a phone-to-desktop app.

I'm really surprised that Google hasn't stepped up and got Gtalk's video chat client up and running on Android. Phone to Phone, Phone to PC, whatever!

i was working on my jeep, and there was a tight space that i needed to see to place my ratchet. For the life of me, I couldn't see anything twisting and turning my head while still on the ground. So i took out my Evo, whipped on the front facing camera, and like magic, I was seeing.

Is there anyone who lived in Europe here? Just asking because a few years ago I got the European version of the Samsung Blackjack. One of the selling points was the front camera that enabled mobile-to-mobile video chat over 3g to any other phone with a front facing camera. So guess what. I showed all of my friends that I could do video calls with my cell phone. After the novelty wore off, that was that. Video chat, imo, is a gimmick to move units. It's a great idea, but its unreliable and crappy in practice.

Well, my friend (just got out of boot camp) is in his A school right now, and he's allowed to have his phone at the end of the day and whatnot. He's getting an iPhone 4 (parents bought it for him when it came out, but he was in boot camp still.) and that's got a camera on it, useful for catching up on things when you're talking to someone. I know, I know, talking does just the same, but if you have some actual face-to-face conversation happening, it's a little different. Kind of like how people fight left and right across the internet, but if they're facing each other it usually just turns into squabling and they might just end up friends or something. Different interactions, different reactions.
