Whats the next big phone for big red?

Good lord, all these new phones are bordering on tablet size! Can't I get a phone with decent specs in a smaller form factor??

I currrently have the Droid Pro and I really like it. Keyboard is great (came over from Blackberry) and the touch screen fits my needs. Now if they could only make the same thing in 4G with maybe a slightly bigger screen (3.5" up from 3.1"?). I'm sure this will never happen since the original pro wasn't a big seller, but I can dream, right? (I think I've seen a total of 4 other people with a Pro, and 2 of them I convinced to buy the phone :) )

Anywho, I had the OG Droid for a year and got by without the keyboard (that slider thing sucked) so I'm sure I can do it again, but I have fairly small hands and do not want a 4+ inch screen. Plus I don't need it taking up all the real estate in my pants lol. I feel like I'll be waiting for quite a while, or even swapping for the iphone *shudder* since it's a smaller phone with a lot of capability.

I went from Sprint Hero to an Evo 3D and thought that phone was huge at first. After a couple days the size just kinda feels comfortable. I now have the RAZR and it's a bit bigger than the 3D and I must say that with its super thin form factor, this phone feels great in my hands. I don't have really big hands either. I can palm a basketball, but just barely.

Pretty sure I can't palm a basketball at all. I just don't want a giant phone. In my hand, my pocket, anywhere. I have no need for a 4.6" LCD screen. That's why I bought a Kindle Fire lol.

I had a Droid Incredible for a few weeks in between the OG Droid and the Pro, and I thought it was a pretty great device. If I didn't want the keyboard on the Pro so bad, I would have kept the DInc. Something like that, in that size, with all the new technology would be perfect. 3.7" screen works great for me personally, then couple it with a dual core processor, 4G, etc. I'd be sold.
 
I think the 4" screen on my Inc2 is perfect. If the Inc 4G has a 4" screen, it may be my next phone. A friend has the Rezound, and that phone is just too big. Even he wishes he got an Inc2.
 
I remember when I first got my Droid X I was worried that it would be just to big with it's 4.3" display. Well, when I first got it I put a clear case on it, (which made it even bigger) but I sort of got used to it. But when it turned out that the phone with the case on it wouldn't fit in the car doc, I removed the case. Wow, now my phone suddenly got smaller and seamed to me just the right size. I now really like the 4.3" screen size and am thinking 4.6" screen.... Whoa, that just might be to big. But logically it probably just be the same size as my "X" was with the clear case.

So if I should end up with a "Fighter", I'll probably get used to it too. However, that remains to be seen. Right now I'm of the mind that 4.3" is just right, but maybe in 4-5 months I'll be saying the same thing about 4.6".

But the thing I worry most about is how any new phone I get will "stack-up" against my "X", which has been the absolute best phone I have ever had.

If the fighter is released on April 12th which appears to be the date, I will most likely wait until after the CTIA show in May before "pulling the trigger" on my upgrade just in case Motorola and Verizon have some SUPERphone waiting in the wings.

Now I'm just waiting for a little more info on the "Fighter" and it's specs. i.e. Ram, internal memory, micro SD card size, processor speed, etc.

C'mon Moto/VZW, turn'em loose!!!
 
Any new cool phones coming to verizon soon? I am tired of the iPhone and want to switch back. The one feature I really want is a good camera which has been androids weakness.

I wholeheartedly agree. I just used an upgrade for the iPhone 4s after having the htc inc and droid x. I prefer andoid, but decided to give the iphone a try. Except for the size, the iphone is a very nice device.

I love the camera and camcorder on it thought. Much better than any droid phone I've owned. I hope the fighter has a better camera than the razr. If so, I'll sell the 4s and get the droid fighter without hesitation.
 
also interested in the next big phone. I no longer work for verizon, but I have another upgrade to waste. using my nexus daily also have rezound and razr. Any rumors on a VZW galaxy note or anything along those lines.
 
MY question is that I see all the other carriers prepping phones like AT&T and T-Mobile with the new HTC phones and Huawai (did I spell that right?) but I hardly see anything that's worth writing home about for Verizon? Sure they are releasing the Droid Fighter or Fireball that's basically an Incredible 3 or HD but really the specs are last years technology. All I see Motorola doing is rereleasing the Droid RAZR in a different shape or form every few months.

I'm sitting pat until something worthy comes out but so far I don't even see any leaks or upcoming anything that's getting me excited.

What do you guys think?

What, exactly, is it that you're looking for? My Inc2 is just about perfect, save for the lack of LTE. I cannot see any reason why it needs to have a significantly faster processor, more memory, etc. It never lags significantly, has a great screen, and good battery life. The Incredible 4G looks like it just may be the perfect device next month. A perfect balance of power, size, and (hopefully) solid battery life. To me, anything more is just overkill and wasted.

Also, remember that software has to follow hardware. The hardware has to exist before somebody can write the software to take advantage of it. Just because there isn't anything out there right now doesn't mean that there won't be something that requires it in the future. And if you have your phone for two years, you might want to get something that can handle future software...or at least has a better chance.
 
Although I do love new tech, I guess I just have a personal contentment with what I have in my RAZR. Coming from the Evo 3D, it wasn't necessarily a major upgrade, but I feel like it can get the job done for what I need from it for the next two years. I really don't feel like having an actual desktop on this small a screen really makes sense to me. To each his own. I've never used Ubuntu before. Could you explain the benefits of having that on your phone?

Yeah, I think you're missing the point of Ubuntu for Android. You're not using it on a small screen. Basically, you take your phone, hook it up to a monitor through HDMI and keyboard/mouse through USB (or use something like the Motorola Lapdock) and it switches from Android mode into Ubuntu mode where you have a full desktop OS/applications with access to all the files on your phone and wifi/3G/4G connectivity. You can still run your Android apps on the desktop too.

If it's as you describe, that could be interesting. I may just retract my previous argument. In fact, I do retract. So is this a quad core only feature? I use System Panel alot to monitor my usage and it rarely shows the seconds core on my RAZR being used. The same was said about my Evo 3D until I rooted and installed an optimized ROM that took advantage its power. I still don't think developers or even OEMs are writing software to take advantage of multi core devices. That's where my contentment and slight skepticism come into play.
 
Canonical (the makers of Ubuntu) were using a Motorola Atrix 2 (dual-core) to show off the functionality and they said it was capable, but it could benefit from a more powerful processor. Here's a nice video about it

 
+1 for software following hardware. If you want tech to last two years anymore, you better get the hardware capable of handling it. That being said, just about everything out there right now is last years tech...
