What's this GSM stuff doing on my Eris?

Most of you already know of the

Phone -> (dial) *#*#4636#*#* -> Phone Information

thing.


Did you ever press the Menu button when on that (Phone information) screen?

Sort of strange the GSM / SIM card stuff is in there... but I wonder if the

More ... Disable data connection -or-
More ... Disable data on boot

do anything useful. (They don't present themselves as a toggle option - I'm too nervous to try them.)
