What's up with the HTC Battery Widget?

I guess I never really looked until the other day

Settings -> Applications -> Manage applications -> (scroll) Battery

(or Settings -> Applications -> Manage applications -> Menu -> Filter -> 3rd Party -> Battery)

The thing is 1.25 Mb in size, and has every system privilege under the sun.

Honestly, why does a battery widget need to be able to read my bookmarks, browsing history, SMS messages, know my GPS location, yada yada yada? Compared to most apps, the thing seems pretty bloated, too - 1.25 Mb?

I'm not paranoid, even if they are out to get me. :D

It's out to get you.

It's a sweet widget. I downloaded it from the Market.

I searched for 'quietly brilliant'.

It's on my home screen.

One time, I let my phone get down to 6% battery life, and it stayed there for 10 minutes of phone conversation. I finally caved in and charged it.
