What's your Cell Standby Percentage?

So what are you seeing for your cell standby % with the 4G turned on all day?

For me after a full days use in a solid 3 bars of 4G service area I am seeing some where between 35% - 45% at the end of the day and cell standby is definitely the largest user of my battery every day.
 
38% 0% time without signal. This is something I really want to understand. Why is cell standby so high? What exactly is cell standby, outside of the obvious.

From what I understand, Cell Standby is the times that your phone is NOT calling someone/sending/receiving data and is sitting idle.

It is the phone keeping track of the fact it is still connected to a cell tower.

I think it is the amount of battery the LTE/3G radios are using.
 
All I can figure out is that the monitor of the battery is not correct. I fully charged my bionic the when I got it and it is now at 50% after 14 hours up (7 of those where last night sleeping). Pretty much normal usage for me. The battery life seems better than the TB but not as good as the Samsung Charge. I guess I cannot expect Charge type battery life on a phone that is so much faster.

After 14 hours and at 50%:

Cell Standby 45%
Idle 42%
Android OS 8%
Display 4%

Those are almost exact opposites of what I have experienced with any phone. My charge would typically be 65-75% display and right around 10-15 cell standby.
I really do not think it is any kind of problem with how the phone is running but rather how it is reporting battery stats.
 
Cell Standby on my phone is anywhere from 20-35% depending on what else is going on. For example, if my phone is just in my pocket for a long period of time, cell standby is higher. Whereas if I'm using Bluetooth or WIFI, then those services get about equal time. It's common for me to see 20% cell standby, 20% idle, 20% Bluetooth, 20% WIFI, and then a few extraneous other things.

But yeah, the phone uses a lot of juice just staying connected to cell towers. And this is true whether you're on 3G or 4G with this phone....
 
I was just trying to find out if high cell standby times are the norm for the Bionic or if something was wrong with mine. I came from a Droid X and am used to seeing standby time range from 5% - 15% after a full days use. I also have a coworker with a Thunderbolt and his cell standby time are always somewhere between 10% - 20% so I thought there might be something wrong with my Bionic since it was having such a high cell standby percentage.

I am using the nighttime saver mode.

My cell standby is 30%, Bluetooth mirrors cell standby time even when nothing is connected to it. Only 2hr off grid. I think this is a bug that needs to be addressed in the next update. D3 seems to have an update for cell standby in the latest release. Wondering if anyone with a D3 also has bluetooth using the same % as cell standby when not being used? (before and/or after the new update)

You do realize that the % is completely 100% dependent on what you use and when you use it?

Unless you can mirror the EXACT application at the EXACT same time as your co-worker then you will see varying %'s.

Yes I do realize that.

But with that being said 2 phone with relatively similar use should have similar standby times, you would think and since the standby times on my Bionic are usually almost double his standby times and are at least double the times of my Droid X I thought it was reasonable question. I was just using his phone as a comparison since we are both in the same 4G area for the same amount of time with very similar usage through out the work day. Plus it is the only other 4G phone on Verizon that I have acces to for comparison.

Do you turn the screen on at the same time and for the same duration, make the same phone calls, have the same apps installed with same background data settings (since it receiving data will cause it to not show up as idle).

I am just saying every phone is as unique as its owner.
 
I have Cell standby at 33% and Phone idle at 29%. What I don't get about the cell standby is that I have had data (3 & 4g) turned off since my last charge. I'm just on wifi at home.

Well, a cell radio STILL has to be turned on so it can check in to the cell towers and also receive texts...

I imagine that is what it is recording...
 
So it seems that having a really high cell standby percentage that is un affected by other phone use is one of the sympotoms of a bad cell radio. Last night my Bionic was replaced by Verizon and after using it last night and downloading apps I got my cell standby to drop into the 20's and today it has been off the charger for 5 hours and the battery is still at 80% and cell standby is at 32%. Which is a lot better than my previous Bionic that would of needed to be charged at 4 hours. My advice to people with high cell stanby and bad battery life would be to call Verizon tech support they are aware of this problem and are replacing phones because of it.

Put your phone in airplane mode and see what happens. Of course, then you can't get calls and SMS either. Trade off.

I have the old Motorola DROID that I did a factory reset on by using the Android FRG83D SBF - it's been up 7 days+ and shows only 2 things using the battery - cell standby and phone idle.

Of course, now that I've connected my USB cable so that I could take screen shots, the 7 days is no longer valid :mad:

Do let us know what they say when you call.. sitting here at 3 hrs 50% left

40 % cell standby
31 % Phone Idle
Wi-fi 14%
7 % display
OS 5%
.....

LOL after typing that i screw it im calling them now!!
 
OK so I think the readings have to be messed up.

Here are mine:
Cell Standby 46%
Phone Idle 41%
Display 6%
and 5 others at 2%

So this means it is reading 103% and none of these are Gmail, which I have received and read 26 emails and responded to 2 this morning and Tweetdeck, which I have set to auto update every two hours, but I have refreshed twice and am up to date reading these.

I have my extended battery in and after 4 hours I am still at 87% battery remaining (no LTE on) so I am not going to complain at all.
 
Ok so im now at 30% with only 4hrs of usage.. Called VZW and she said we will start with a new Battery. Also said since they dont have any std battery in stock that if they get the extended battery in stock first that she will send that "For Freeeee"..

Then if that dont help they will replace the device.
 
Funny. I asked this exact same question on this forum last Friday and was harrassed for asking it. I guess some folks have better luck. Hope the following helps:

Time off Charger: 1 Day 2 hours(ish)

Battery Level: 5%

Cell Standby 38%
Phone Idle 36%
Wi-Fi 14%

Hi everyone.

I'm making my rookie debut, but visit this site often to read from the forums.I got curious when reading these posts about cell standby.Should I be concerned with these stats?

15h 14m off the charger as of this post
Cell Standby:55%
Time without signal:30% ( signal not so good at work)
Phone Idle:38%
Display:7%
Android OS:2%
3g only

I also use Task Manager if this makes a difference.

I've tried it in airplane mode, and it doesn't go down as much but still goes down to 50-60%. Don't remember the exact percentages of phone idle and cell standby. I haven't called yet, I've been trying to see if installing the unbloated ROM and clearing battery stats but it's still the same, sigh.
 
I think android needs to break down the battery stat categories better. I think they are to generic to identify a real battery drain problem. To many things are lumped into each category. I have given up on trying to rely on any of them to spot a problem.

Also, someone said it well earlier. Those numbers are going to change a great deal depending on your use of the device.
