As the title suggest I would like for you to tell us your favorite Desktop Environment and why? Feel free to show graphics :)

I use the KDE Desktop environment I like it even though I really didn't want to go to KDE at first. I had used it years before and Thought it way to heavy so I switched to gnome which i loved however they created version 3 and I really just didn't like it. So I decided to try KDE again. Now I'm not as fancy as most people with their desktops as I keep things very simple.

I have a basic theme going that I haven't finished yet but you probably can't tell what it is lol :D

Feel free to share your widgets and where to find them at for those who wish to use them.

The only real widget I use is KDE Connect for my android devices. It shows me when I have notifications on them when its synced to my computer. Comes in handy especially when I have the devices on the other side of the room and don't want to go see what it is

I used Fluxbox for many years, but when Gnome 3 came out I loaded Fedora and gave it a try. It's flawed, yes, but I eventually got to kinda like it. Also, it plays nice with some software I use now. So presently I'm using Gnome 3 with Portalview for wallpaper.

KDE. :)

I remember being quite up in arms when KDE went from 3.x to 4.x. The change was huge--and flaky, and problem-riddled, and just not very nice. I actually switched to GNOME for a bit, as I recall.

Now? I love KDE. It's very developed and sophisticated these days, with more possibilities than one person can hope to explore in their lifetime.

I'm a minimalist when it comes to clutter on my desktops--there is none! No icons, no widgets, nothing. Just wallpaper from pics I've taken. The widgets I use are placed in my panel. I always set my number of desktops at nine, not so much because I use all nine but because I like how that looks on my desktop cube.

Here are two screenshots of my newest laptop:

This thread seems poll worthy. I added a poll.

Personally, I jump between GNOME and LXDE but I can't decide which I like better

Before I had left Georgia I had my network setup and I had LXDE on the servers and I loved it. Very clean and light weight. However do to the way I was using it I really didn't get to Know it. I just used it to manage things and for setup.

I was a big fan of Gnome 2; but then Ubuntu introduced Unity.

I fought the change for a couple years, waiting for Canonical to work the kinks out.

I used the Unity interface (which I customized) for a couple years until Ubuntu began going in a decidedly MS direction and I switched to Mint.

Cinnamon is a nice DE, though it's new and needs a little maturation. I wanted the kind of customization and toys wehad in Gnome 2, and a certain young lady on these forums talked me into giving KDE a running chance.

I like it enough to install the KDE variant of Mint 17, though I still prefer mostly Gnomish apps (nemo, gedit, banshee).

Oh, and Thunar comes in pretty handy for its mass renaming function.

Main reason I started using LXDE was because I couldn't reliably fullscreen Minecraft on GNOME (pretty much pushing F11 some random number of times until it went fullscreen and then hoping I didn't need to adjust the volume which would undo the fullscreen and usually force me to close and relaunch to be able to go fullscreen again)

I was a long time Gnome 2 user and it broke my heart when G3 came on the scene. After that, I gave KDE4 another chance and really enjoying using it. So it has been my main DE lately.

I also use Window Managers and may use it for longer periods then DE. So I keep Openbox, Fluxbox & recently i3WM installed. After giving Archlinux another try, I added Mate DE, which is a replacement fork of Gnome 2...I've heard about it but never tried it until now. It will probably be my main DE in future installs.

I've heard about Cinnamon but never tried it either. I will research it and see is it just as good as Mate.

Thnx.

Cinnamon is a nice DE and in my opinion Nemo is a superior file manager, but I does like my rotating cube and different wallpapers between the desktops, and Cinnamon just isn't there yet.

I was always a GNOME fan until they broke it :-(

But there's always a plus side and it forced me to look at others I hadn't even considered for years and I settled on Xfce; I like its simplicity and that many GNOME programs can be run without too much pollution - indeed it sometimes feels more like the original GNOME than the original Xfce. I like it :-)

PS: after using Xfce for a while I came across this article which just about sums up my opinion on the matter.

XFCE with LXDE a close second. On my 'Frankenstrin' box whill I'll try most any DE, I like playing with Enlightenment.
