Help Whatsapp back-up query

Lurker
Hi,

If I back-up my whatsapp conversations on an android, then wipe my phone and re-install whatsapp once restore is complete, will my back-up already be there? I don't use an SD card or any other internal file to store them - I assume the file backs up automatically to whatsapp cloud?

Also, if I delete whatsapp and re-install, will all old conversations re-appear automatically?

Many thanks,

Tom

No, backups are made to internal storage, so a wipe will delete them. You'll have to copy the /Whatsapp/Databases folder to computer or cloud storage beforehand, then restore it back before reinstalling Whatsapp.

Thank you

So android whatsapp does not store data through a cloud service?

I'm sure when I restored my phone and downloaded whatsapp, all precious convos appeared. I used Samsung kies if that helps?

I've found no option to change the location. My backups are saved to internal storage by default.

That may be a function of Kies. I don't use a Samsung device so I mirror the Whatsapp backup folder to a cloud account manually to get round this (apparent) limitation. If/when I need to restore it it's available via that.
