Help WhatsApp + waking from sleep/standby?!

This is driving me insane. I'm a brand new Android user (hello all!), previously an iphone fanatic.

Anyway, this is my first android, I use Whatsapp A LOT to keep in touch with friends and chat etc.. I cannot figure out how to get my notifications (messages) to wake my phone up. I'd hear a sound, but the screen stays black. I've searched all over on how to do this, checked my settings, and have hit a dead end.

On my iphone4, my screen would wake and pop a box just like it would if I got an sms.

Is there anyway to get whatsapp for android to do the same?

When my screen does turn on, for a text message notification for instance, it's usually for about 4 seconds and is usually too little time for me to get to it to slide the lock. Good luck.

Try iPhone Notifications. I am using that for letting my phone wake up when I receive a Whatsapp message.
