When do the updates stop?

I live in Thailand and my relatively new HTC Desire is, I guess running on 2.1 but Im getting updates eg 2.12** periodically.

My question is, will I get get 2.2 when they are ready to roll it out in this country and then 2.3? Or will I be offered a pay for option? btw, I thought I was on 2.2 until I got the 2.1** update

I see, I'm on Android version 2.2 and software number 2.12.110.2.
