When do you get the text message error code?

Just ordered the Evo today and I am wondering when do you get the error code from messaging? Is it in low signal area or what?

It doesn't necessarily happen in low signal area. I've gotten errors in strong signal areas too. Also it's not only text messages, you can't receive or make calls and no data service. This happens when signal is at -120 dBm. Search around this forum for radio interference error.

I've gotten it at random. IIRC, the issue usually stems (at least for me) from dealing with wifi while at home (whether it's waking the phone up from sleep, or I'll be doing something and I'll notice the signal went to -120 at which point I send a text message to myself and it doesn't go through). At work, I leave wifi off and never get the issue plus I have great signal at work (no idea if it increases or decreases the chance of getting it). I've tried the solution from the other threads, it helps for a little while but it comes back eventually. But now that you mention it, I don't recall getting it the past few days now (knock on wood).

I noticed that. My parents were less than thrilled with me when I couldn't text or call them at 11:30 at night...

Also, what's a good signal level to be at? I've got Signal Notification and it normally hovers between -70 and -90. What's the ideal range?

-70 is decent, -90 isn't good but should still be able to easily send texts and make calls...in my expericence the Evo V just doesn't handle low signals as well as other phones I've had. My warp had crappy signal too, and was on same prl as my Evo V, but I could put them next to each other and send texts and make calls just fine on the warp, while the Evo did nothing.

-50 to -60 will be preferred, but -70s isn't bad. I would suggest toggling airplane mode or even restarting as soon as you see the signal stuck at -120.

Yeah, I just noticed it hit -120 and I got the error. This is maddening.

i just got the error for the first time since i came back to the evo on tuesday.two days after i returned my first evo they sent me a text saying they reset my services at their end and to remove the battery and restart the phone.i have no clue if that would actually do anything since i already returned the phone but i read other posts where it didnt do anything.

i hope they actually do something to fix this asap since it only took 2 calls to google play to leave me with only 7 minutes on my t mobile account so my evo will become my main phone very shortly.

I've only gotten it in my basement, which is understandable because it's basically a bomb shelter.

Haven't gotten it lately though, seems like the ##CLEAR# trick mentioned above helped me a little bit.
