Help When is the official update due out?

I am getting a bit tired of my phone locking up and a few other issues with data dropping and such. Some of the issues are things I really can't be without and it has become a bit of a nuisance. I do not want to root and add some supposed leaked update. Anyone have a better idea of when this is officially going to be rolled out?

no one can answer that really. I will tell you the process.

Moto works on update
They have to send it to VZW for review.
VZW will probably reject the first few
Then eventually an update will get approved
It will go out to a soak test group first
If there are issues the update is pulled and back to square one
If no issues the update is a go.

I chose to not install the leak.

You can install the leak and remain unrooted. Many people have decided to do that. Many others have decided not to.

There is another easy to find thread in this forum that will tell you how to install the leak if that is what you decide to do.

I'm not sure what you mean by "locking up".

Yes it freezes and I have to pull the battery. I also choose not to root or install the leaked version.
How will we know when the actual update is available? Thanks all that replied.

I've never had the phone freeze up on me, just randomly turning off. Are you using the ext battery or standard?

Do you think it may be a App that you installed. Maybe a Factory Reset is in order to see if that will take care of the situation.

There's a nice thread in here that shows that the iOS 5.0.1 update is still causing issues for people - or, to put it better, didn't solve those issues that they had to begin with.

I'd rather that Moto wait and get it right than put out a half-baked update and make even more people pissed off.

If history says anything the rumor mill says first week of november, the actual push will be in q1.

Even now the rumor mill is saying it will be pushed with ics...who knows at this point.

I've heard the soak test notices are being sent out...

*looks at johnlgalt* !

:)

edit: somehow I missed the post RIGHT before mine stating the same thing...

Lol - I didn't realize that this was what everyone was talking about.

I've gotten 3 soak msgs so far regarding the BIONIC - the third (aka most recent) one is interesting, in that they have this to say on part of the survey:

Droid Bionic Nov. 2011 update soak - registration

Rooted?

We recognize that many of our most astute and engaged owners also root and/or otherwise modify their software. While we are eager to get feedback from these owners, we find that we spend a disproportionate amount of precious soak time helping them through the update process.

If you have ever rooted and/or modified your phone's software:

> You must return your phone to stock -- that means no root, no modified/frozen/removed apks, no backup programs left in place - pure stock. Otherwise your installation will fail -- or worse.

> You must do this sooner rather than later. Performing a factory data reset after our MEID list has been submitted will knock you off the update list, so if you restore at the last minute, you may miss the update.

> If you encounter any update issues, you will include any former rooted/modified state no matter how long ago it happened and how thoroughly you have attempted to restore.

It's not that we won't help you, but we need to be able to prioritize our efforts since soak periods are so short. We do want you to take part, if you can successfully restore and upgrade.

Under the circumstances...

  • I've rooted/modified my phone's software and I agree to the terms above --
  • I will return to stock to take part.
  • I've rooted/modified my phone's software and don't want to take part under the circumstances.

Go Go RM backup! lol

I like the "otherwise your update will fail - or worse" part....

I wonder if they know about / have considered the leaked testing updates with updated kernel and baseband (firmware)?

I'll ask Matt (privately) in the Moto forums.

Certainly causes one to wonder how the "otherwise your update will fail - or worse" will affect those who have applied the leaked 5.7.893 update.

Matt replied that he doesn't know for sure, and suggested that maybe I not take part in the Beta since I cannot revert to pure stock. I replied that I'm good with trying, at the very least.

I'm going to try the FXZ method tomorrow or over the weekend to see what happens. Either way, I'm moving forward with the testing.

Would assume like any other official update that if there is a problem then the update would fail.. ASSUME i say..

I tried the FXZ method - sure enough it fails on file #1 of 15 - the boot image. So, it's smart enough to know (or else has something written into the files) that prevents a reversion.

I'm still looking into the files themselves though - There really should be a way to do this without tripping eFuse.
