When restarting some apps disappear from home screen

Just wandering if this is normal behavior on the Moto G?

When I restart (every month or so) at least a couple of apps disappear where I placed them on the home screen - there is blank space where they once were!

I then have to drag the app to the blank area again (if I can remember which app was there in the first place!).

Is this normal?

That depends on what you mean by restart. Most people turn their phones off more than once a month, and that's a lot more than a restart (it restarts the hardware too, which a restart from the power button menu doesn't).

If it actually happens just by hard restarting (not just restarting Android, the way some ROMS can do [and you can do using an Xposed module), you have a problem somewhere. But I've never seen it happen, so I;d have to experiment with the phone to even have a chance of finding out what the problem is. (Have you tried installing a different launcher and seeing if it still happens, just to localize the problem to the launcher or somewhere else? [The homescreen is the launcher.])
