When will Droid get 2.1?

sometime between noon today, and noon in 2-3 months

should keep your phone by your side at all times! you never know :D

I read rumors of flash and 2.1 coming at the end of January. First off that is a rumor, and its still the end of January so really they still have 3 days to release it for that rumor too be true.

And when 2.0.1 update was out, I did the system update and it said my phone was up too date, which it wasn't. So I downloaded the update in a zip file and installed it.

When the update comes out, your phone will let you know theirs an update eventually, may even take a few days.

No one on this board knows anything more than you. You will know the update is coming when your carrier makes an official announcement. Not some guy with a blog or some tech site creating BS rumors cause they are bored. Its gotten very annoying.

Please stop posting all over the place with stuff like this. If people want to talk, let them.
For the record, we called an update a month before release. It started a few days prior to "our rumor", but also took a few days to roll out.

Id have to say I'm inclined to agree with mbell on this one... as long as its what I think he's refering to be annoyed at. I'm also annoyed with fake hype and false reporting by the media tech outlets.

I'm guessing google avoided giving the 2.1 code to Motorola as long as possible: that way it would take time for Moto to integrate their blur, and adapt it to the Droid for a during the N1's initial release. This would make the N1 look more enticing to a new buyer, and increase initial sales. That way they can press release that the N1 is BLASTING OFF! in sales and is the next big thing.

Google obviously wants to bypass using carriers as retailers and instead sell the hardware directly, instead of sharing the profit with both the manufacturer and carrier.

That's just my guess/observation as a person not in the industry.

I would also think though, that they are smart enough to know that if they WILL eventually support their now semi-competitors /slash/customers, as they know that they are shooting themselves in the foot with their operating system.

It actually looks like they are attempting to play both sides of the fence: They want to give their hardware, and direct sales an advantage through control, but also want to spread their software amongst other outlets, and this is their way of doing it. They want to sneakily combine the Apple and M$ business models.

That's just my guess.

@Artis Droid does not have moto blur. It is stock android, which is why people are expecting to get 2.1 on droid before HTC's eris because the eris has Sense UI and htc will be responsible for updating sense to go along with 2.1

There is always Fake hype on everything, Read the Playstation update forums over at sony site, you'll see what i mean. I ask verizon when i was getting my girls eris and i asked the guy about 2.1 and he said "oh sometime today" that was 3 days ago. so i bet no one knows really. it will just happen when it happens. All i want is Flash thats all i really care about...lol...

Its a good thing threads are labled so you can pick and choose which ones are important enough to read. If people were claiming that information they post are "official" then I can see why it should be stopped, but I have heard nothing on here that has been stated as FACT, merely speculation. And there isn't any harm in speculating. Its what keeps people interested.

I agree entirely. Plus, if it weren't for all of the initial rumors and speculation, the 2.1 update for the Droid would not have gotten so much attention. And it is because of that attention that Motorola has addressed this issue (albeit very little) on Twitter and such. I would love to hear more, but it's best to simply make due with what information we have.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with speculation, though, as long as the OP makes no claim to have any conclusive answers, and makes no attempt to mislead anyone. I do feel inclined to point out, however, that a little searching will reveal that there are really no answers out there.
