when will/how do I get Android 2.3??

Hi gang,

I'm a proper Android NEWB and I've got a HTC Desire HD Handset that is the absolute muts nuts!! My gf and I both upgraded in March and she got her Samsung Galaxy S and its recently received its Android 2.3 update but my HTC is still none the wiser!! Do I have to prompt it or will it come automatically? For instance when I connected my other halfs phone to our laptop and installed its software it immediately mentioned the update but when mine is connected via HTC Sense it doesn't see the update yet. Any ideas?

I read the following but I still haven't had the update come through yet, I don't suppose theres anything I can do to force it is there?

If ur just going to be lippy why reply? I just wondered! has anyone else experienced a delay with htc desire hd on orange? Impatient or nasty replies will be ignored.

DHD Gingerbread Update

No one is being lippy, it's just that there's a fairly significant thread (linked above) discussing the update already.

The Gingerbread update is released on a phased basis - not everyone gets it at the same time and it seems that it's appearing in some countries and not others yet.

You don't say where you're from which doesn't help but I'm guessing you're in the UK based on Orange and your English but please correct me if I'm wrong.

So far, only DHD owners on Vodafone UK appear to have gotten the update - no other operators seem to have pushed it out and unbranded mobiles haven't received the update either.

There also appears to have been some bugs in the original OTA release which has delayed the roll out. There was some mention of the roll out being halted until 8 May though other sources have said that a second update to fix the original release has been appearing but it doesn't mention if that's just for those who got the first one or whether everyone is getting it.

I've moved this to the Desire HD area, probably you'll find kindred souls here to answer.

Fwiw, US HTC phones have a settings option parallel to About Phone called Updates, where you can try to check manually.

Ensure full charge or plugged into charger for safest results, as with any brand when updating.

No its fine, u cudve mentioned the thread that discussed it or asked for more info, i did have a look around in the forum for anything obvious but cudnt find any innitially. Anyway thanks thats a lot of help, i probably overreacted too, apologies and thanks 4 the help. Yep, in the uk! Ta

Yeah, I find it's far less confrontational to just link the thread and kindly point out the search function, though bear in mind that when I read the thread, it was sitting right above the Gingerbread thread so it looked like you were actually being a lazy bastard!

Only realised that EM moved thread from a different forum afterwards so maybe give sitlet some slack!
 
Our forum software is the thing to blame - our search functions really kinda suck.

I actually use google to search here, just prefix your search with "androidforums"

Oh, and please be polite everybuddy, cheers, thanksAlot. (Old Absolutely Fabulous fan, I can never resist that last bit. :))

Anyway Pro, we've gotten you into the right neighborhood for all your DHD questions and info, that's the main thing.
 
yeah thanks guys I appreciate the help so far, this forum is pretty great so far, I didn't know what I was doing when i first turned on my Desire but love it to bits now. thanks again

Ok, in order to keep things organised around here, I'm closing this thread to try and keep all the update speculation/discussion/etc in the main thread here.
