Root Where do I start?

Me and a close friend want to start learning more about androids, how they work, and eventually start developing. I'm just curious if anyone knows any threads on how I can start, what the basics are, etc. Thanks in advance!

You didn't specify a particular android phone, so that's a rather sweeping question, but you may want to spend some time nosing around over on the XDA Developer's Forum - Android & Windows Phone: Tablets, Apps, & ROMs @ xda-developers - those guys are the real pros, and they seem to be on the cutting edge of all new breakthroughs for the android community.

Yeah I've started reading over at XDA. Right now my only android is the Atrix but I was hoping to get more and expand on what I work with, ya know?
