Where do you do NFC payments?

I can safely say I will never use my tablet to purchase something via NFC. It just isn't practical, if even possible being WiFi only...

I can see myself using my phone, however I have only done it once with the free $10 Google gave me, still with 8 bucks left.

I tried this three times today!
Then first time was at McDonalds and the cashier tried to do it and said that her screen said it wasn't going through. But the tablet showed a pending authorization. When I called Goog later about it, they said the cashier may have accidentally pushed debit instead of credit. Second time, Walgreens, which claimed that their pay pass setup isn't working "yet" (but it's been there for months... ). Third time, different McDonald's, cashier didn't have a clue and neither did her manager (and neither did I, I am not judging) but they finally got it to ring up. :o

That's been my fear is that the staff will be too ignorant and not know how to deal with me tapping my phone/tablet to their card machine.

Yeah, phone makes a whole lot more sense.

Out of curiosity, and to see if I could get google to buy me lunch, I tried this at Burger King today, and it worked about as well as I expected it to: Gets partway through looking like it is doing something, then tells me to try again (which I did a couple of times then gave up and paid cash).

The guy at the counter really liked the Nexus tablet though :-).

One thing I learned from my failed initial 3 tries was that there are different paypass terminals. The first time it wasn't working for me because I kept tapping the google wallet symbol. But the actual NFC was higher. Seems all the paypass have that light blue translucent plastic section that is the actual NFC. I did not know and neither did the cashier. It wasn't until one day one cashier said I have to tap higher. Ever since wallet has made me happy except for that one time at the Macys when I couldn't start up wallet.

But being on verizon is bad because I had an issue with a transaction once and google could not help me because my device is unsupported. God I hate verizon. I can't wait until google fiber becomes google cell phone and I can ditch all cell phone providers out there now.

Thanks for the tip on no data connection needed. Was just my assumption. :o
A quick tip I picked up when the Gnex came out was if you plan on doing a purchase soon, pre-login to Wallet and enter your pin. That way you just have to unlock the screen and you're ready to go.
I know it's easy and silly, but helps if you're in a hurry and remember beforehand.

It didn't work well for me today at McDonald's. I think it was because I was on the crappy "free" wi-fi. It would not log all the way into the wallet, just did that "thinking circle" thing without actually doing anything. Then after I went outside into the car, I turned on foxfi and it worked and logged in like a charm. I kicked myself for not doing that in the first place! ;) Are you SURE no data connection is needed?

I finally did manage to get google to buy me lunch at McDonald's the other day. I had no wi-fi connection at the time, but the charge actually went through OK. I've only got 92 cents left on my card now, I think it can just sit there forever. It really is inconvenient to drag the tablet around try try and buy things with it.
