Help Where has my Favourite Apps screen gone?

My new Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (running Android 4.1.1) is my first Android device. I am therefore an Android newbie and need some help with what I suspect are some basic features.

I chose to use the 'Easy mode' setting under Status/Home screen mode. This then gave me a Favourite Apps and a Favourite Settings screen. However, my Favourite Apps screen has now disappeared. After browsing for a solution, I got the impression that a long press on the blank home page screen might bring it back but that didn't help. A few more long presses then made my Favourite Settings screen disappear as well. Also, my Settings icon got copied to a separate screen. Clearly, I've no idea what I'm doing!

Can anyone suggest a way in which I can reinstate the original 'Easy mode' layout? Also, where can I find the best online user guide to Android 4.1.1 (there seems to be quite a few of them)?

If you're referring to the quick access bar of apps then it is a long press of the back key.

No, that's not the one that's disappeared. That quick access bar is always there, no matter which choice you make for 'Home screen mode'.

The Favourite Apps screen is much larger and was originally created when I selected the 'Easy mode' setting under Status/Home screen mode.

Favourite Apps is a Widget. Click the right topmost tab in the apps drawer, scroll almost to the end of the Widgets and you'll see it, a big 4x4 Widget. You'll need to put it on a (mostly) blank home screen.

Thanks for that, Puppa! My primary problem is now resolved.

How do I remove the copy of the Settings icon from an otherwise blank screen? Its still listed with all my other app icons.

Also, what about my other question about where to find a good online guide to Android 4.1.1?

To get rid of the icon on the otherwise blank screen, long-press it, then drag it to the trash can at the top of the screen.

If you sign in to the Google Play site, you can just click on Install on your PC and it'll be installed on your device. It covers some of Android, but mainly it's for the Galaxy Note 2, which is what I'm assuming you're looking for.

Rather oddly, after I had restored my missing Favourite Apps and Favourite Settings panels, the orphan copy of the Settings icon sitting all alone on one of the home screens had gone without me having to take any further action.

Your link to the GALAXY Note II User's Digest looked useful and I have just installed it on my phone. However, I failed to find any reference to the Android stuff we have been discussing. Is there another source that might plug this gap?
