Where has my google keyboard microphone gone?

Until a couple of days ago it was at the very bottom left of my screen below the keyboard, next to the navigation keys (Galaxy A13).
Now it has vanished, and I can't work out how to get it back or do speech to text on all my apps like messages etc.
I've done updates, restarted and all but to no avail.

Have you cleared out the cache?

Damn this was painful. I did clear the cache which didn't help, so I then EVENTUALLY (can't remember how now) got to settings/general management/keyboard list and default/Keyboard button on navigation bar. Which for some reason was switched off. Before all this, there was a microphone symbol at the left of the navigation bar, now it's a little keyboard symbol. Now I have to select that and switch to Google Voice Typing every time to get it started. So it's now a 2 step process just to get the microphone happening! Gaagh! This all changed in the latest update.
