where is my droid?

diamente

Lurker
i lost my phone somewhere in my house and have spent almost two days finding it without any luck. My coworker told me next time i could get this app called, "where is my droid?" that would enable the phone to ring.

my phone is silent so no matter if you leave voicemail or make a call to it, the phone does not make a sound. I have tried it many times.

is there a way that I can make the phone ring from a computer?

A complete separate issue. Ever since I got my samsung captivate about three months ago, I have not been pleased with it. it locks up and it is slow. i read somewhere that yahoo e-mail app causes it to lock up.

so if i were to root the phone and updat the system to froyo, would the phone run much smoother and quicker?

Thanks,

You can log into Gmail and call your phone.

Or you can download a free app called Lookup Mobile Security. The latter won't help you this time, but next time you can "make my phone scream" from their site.

Thank you very much for help and words of encouragement. I have found my phone. It was in stack of books and wallets that look like my phone.

Here's my experience with ATT. It's not good to lose your phone. You have to buy the phone at full retail price. For an Iphone, the price is about $600 to $700. Unless if you have at least 6 months into the 2 year contract, you can get them at half price. Those refurb phone on ATT websites are not available to you unless you are looking to signing new contract.

I am going to look into those free tracking software so next time even if my phone were to be on silent, I can locate it. thanks

Did you look in the fridge? I fund some random stuff in the fridge.

Welcome to the forums, diamente!

Looks like you're in good hands - this user group is very supportive and knowledgable.

Best luck finding your phone!

Ohhh...I bet not. But (again, for next time) the Lookout app alarm will work (I think) even if your phone is on silent.

Just hope your battery is not dead 2 days later.

You should be able to get insurance for the captivate. It is not available for the iphone but is available on their other phones.

Glad you found your phone!

You might also consider a good backup strategy. Lots of people seem to recommend MyBackup Pro. It costs a few bucks, but that pays for itself first time you have to replace your phone for any reason. The idea is to back up your apps and settings to your internal memory (typically the SD card) and then transfer it to your PC from there.

I found mine in the cupboard once, next to the cups. Near as I could figure: without my morning coffee I was unable to manage a phone and a coffee cup at the same time because it's otherwise a mystery.

See, the fridge is not so unreasonable after all!

The "where is my droid?" app is really good. I haven't lost my phone yet, but I've tested the app. Even if your phone is on silent, it turns on the sound when you text your phone using the secret phrase. Just don't tell your siblings the code like I did or they'll keep texting you to make it go off. lol

I work third shift and put my phone on silent during the day while I sleep. We don't have a home phone, so my wife can text me using wheres my droid if she needs to get ahold of me. It works great.

I also tested it, I paid to support and I'm very happy with it. I may not need it regularly, hopefully never actually, but it's worth the piece of mind! :p The GPS feature makes me laugh too, notice a reviewer said they traced their phone to the thief's door? LOL.
