where is the ram?

Interesting question. Even I have seen max 320 mb RAM. :)

I dont think the O1 has 512 RAM. Several apps showed the RAM as 418MB. Then, the system uses some RAM, so thats why we rarely see above 300MB as free. This decreases as we install more apps, even if we kill all running tasks. I'm guessing some part of the apps actually run background tasks or remain loaded so that they can start up faster.

Thanks. :)

When the phone was without the memory card, the available RAM shooted up from 280 to 320. So, yes, I guess that there are many things using the RAM.

as advertised, LG Optimus One has 512mb of ram. but i haven't seen ram above 300mb. is the rest taken by the OS?

This is the info that i got from one of the forums.
Apparently, around 40 mb of the RAM is taken by the baseband.
around 10 by the Kernal
another 50 for camera, audio blah blah....
and around 100 goes to the OS.
May be this is one reason why we find only around 300 RAM available!

considering all your suggestions, i'm thinking of those other models who have less than 512 MB RAM (example, many have 256 MB of RAM)... is that in total or the count which the user gets ?
