Help Where to Replace LCD screen for Galaxy S3

Ok, so I dropped my phone and cracked the LCD screen

I have looked up replacement screen assemblies, but I haven't found anything under $200.

I was wondering if anyone knew or could help me out in finding something cheaper. Or maybe recommend somewhere to go to get it replaced cheaper. I need this fixed as soon as possible.

Thank you.

Well, you could try eBay, but you run the risk of not getting what you paid for. Some people mistake the super AMOLED screen you need with regular LED screens. Beware of a deal that seems too good to be true.

Do you have insurance for your phone? Perhaps that will help in the damages?

Also, beware of mall kiosks that claim to get the job done for cheap. Make sure you go with a repair facility that has a good reputation.

No, I have no insurance...regretting that now.
I checked ebay but the cheapest was $204.99. I was hoping to find something cheaper. I pretty sure a repair shop wouldn't be any cheaper.

I'm honestly not sure if a repair shop would give you a better deal, but be very careful with attempting repairs yourself unless you really know what you are doing. You could cause more harm than good if you don't know what you are doing.

I would check where you bought the phone and ask if they repair screens and so how much.

Also call around to some phone shops in your area. Here in Chicago there are several places that repair screens, usually within a day. Since the SIII is a pretty popular phone I would think it be $100.00-$150.00.

There also some online repair shops where you would send in your phone and they would send it back with a new screen. Not sure that is an option for you though.

Just be careful not to search for an LCD display. As someone said, the s3 has AMOLED, a type of LED display. Very different from LCD ;)

I cracked mine also and looked at replacing just the glass for about $20 but it's a tough job and doesn't replace the thin glue layer under the glass screen. Samsung will replace the entire screen, including LCD for $135--not a bad deal considering the phone will be like brand new again. Go to their webpage under support and follow the prompts. 7 day turnaround to svc. center in Texas.

Also lets be clear on the components of the "screen".

1) a layer of glass (its just glass)

Underneath that....

2) the digitiser (a capacitive electrostatic layer that interprets touch input)

Underneath that....

3) the AMOLED panel (the bit that actually displays stuff)

Now there are different options depending on what has broken. For example if touch and display work perfectly, you may just need glass. If not, you may need the whole unit.

We really can't offer advice until you identify what is broken.

By the way, removing glass requires a heat gun. You would void warranty. Sometimes its worth going through the official channels and if you can't, at least pay a professional
