Where's all my space

I'm using 2.3 stock and have the app2sd app installed.

According to app2sd I've got about 50mb of apps installed on the phone only, but only 17mb free.

Where is all the other space being used ????

I would love to root but with 10 mths of my contract to go don't want to brick my phone.

Cache is usually a big space destroyer I've found.
For example Facebook, Emails.
