Where's my email gone?

I've been using my desire for about 10 months now with no problem at all. I have my yahoo email account linked to the email function on the phone and it has been working fine... until today. I got a message saying it cannot connect to server, or something like that. I tried deleting the account, now when i put in my email address and password I get a message saying

"WARNING

Cannot connect to the remote server. Please check the network settings and then try again"

I've googled around a bit and lots of people talk about changing to asia settings or something, but it has been working fine so seems a bit odd that i would need to change stuff now.

Any ideas?

Same thing happened to me yesterday! But happened after i updated my ROM. I know its weird, but until you find a way out, its better to do a manual settings change!

btw did you try the yahoo email app?

Thanks, I havent used the yahoo app yet as I was quite happy with how it was working before. From what i've read you get quite a few adds and stuff with the app. I don't think I updated anything before it stopped working? Have you got yours fixed now?

I have exactly the same problem. My yahoo mail has been working fine for the last year on my htc desire but then today it said Cannot connect to the remote server. Please check the network settings and then try again. I deleted my account and tried to reset it up but I just get the same message.
Any help would be appreciated.

I had the same problem. This fixed it for me. In the mail app select 'menu', settings, account settings, select the yahoo account, Next, check the server port. Mine was set to 110. I changed it to 995 (SSL security type) and it started working again. Good luck.

These settings should get you up and running again using the HTC Desire email with a yahoo account.

Select to set manually.

Incoming settings

Protocol: IMAP

Enter your complete email address for user name, example: master_yoda@yahoo.co.uk

Enter password as normal.

IMAP server: imap-ssl.mail.yahoo.com

Security type: None

Server port: 143

Outgoing server settings

Check the box for Login required

Enter your complete email address again for user name

Enter password as normal again.

SMTP server: smtp.mail.yahoo.com

Security type: None

server port: 587

The answer would be no...! But somehow, it got autofixed. Ill surely let you know if i find out the exact reason! :)

Fixed itself today. Still on the original settings (POP rather than Imap)

Why rather than IMAP?

IMAP vs. POP

Personally I've had regular trouble with POP on my Desire over the last year, by which I mean every so often it stopped working and I had to research online to find a fix, usually changing settings manually such as server or port.

Since switching to IMAP and the settings I posted above its been rock solid (didnt go down this week when your POP settings did either) and I havnt looked back.

Food for thought!

Cheers
