Where's the antenna?

I was wondering if anyone here knew where the internal antenna is located on the Transform Ultra M930. Is there any tear-down documentation? I don't suppose it's possible that the "metallic" bezel is used as an antenna, correct?

My reason for asking such things is because I'm interested in installing/mounting a removable external antenna to compensate for Sprint/Nextel/Boost's inadequate coverage areas.

I'm not 100% but I think the antenna is by the mouthpiece on the phone. I'll try and look it up. I have a busted ST Ultra... Might bust it up some more!

Thanks, I've been searching everywhere for some info on this and have come up short in every case. It doesn't look like there is an external antenna port as far as I can see...

the external antenna port is right under the battery... i dont think you will be able to use the port and battery at the same time...
but take out battery, look at the bottom center of the battery cavity, you will see a little shiny external antenna port

hope that helps :)

Merry ChristMas !!!!!

The little gold peice? Doesn't look like much to connect to. It'd be some small wires to do anything.

hmmm... im not 100% sure that i am right
i just noteced a second one in the top left of the battery cavity.
one is marked eith a "G" and the other is marked with a "R". R could be for radio, and G could be for wifi, but thats only a guess... i have no clue... sorry:confused:

but yes that are small like that.

Yeah, there are two. I guess I might try climbing the ladder of CS at Samsung. Never know, might happen across somene actually helpful... ;D

As it turns out, I didn't have to do much climbing afterall! The first CS rep I spoke to was kind enough to tell me what's what. The port marked "R" is indeed the antenna port, while the one marked "G" is for WiFi. Unfortunately, my call was disrupted and I don't know what style adapter fits those ports. Ah, well... At least that's one mystery solved... ^_^d

They actually look like Hirose U.FL connectors. search for the wiki article
Hirose_U.FLHirose U.FL - and look at the pictures

They are pretty fragile, and the connectors are sold as part of a pre-assembled pigtail for WIFI devices. Many routers have these little guys on their main boards with the pigtail connecting to a larger rubber duck style antenna. They are not meant to me used many times, so be careful if you decide to try one.

Anyone know an EE who is really into building antennas?
