Help Where's the keyboard voice input?

I just got an Ascend. I switched from the Samsung Intercept on Virgin Mobile mainly for the larger screen. I like this phone better than the intercept, HOWEVER it seems there is no voice input button on my keyboard, nor an option for it under "languages & keyboard" like there was on my intercept. I wuz a huge user of this button. I've installed the "Smart Keyboard" trial which has it, but it does not work. It brings up the google voice but after I talk to it, nothing happens in the form I'm trying to get input into.

The voice input with handcent works fine. I just can't use it ANYWHERE else!! It's so freakin annoying.

Is there something this phone is missing or something I'm missing to make this work?? I prefer to use the android keyboard. I just need my mic icon back where the comma is now. What's going on??

There isn't one. You can download an app called better keyboard and that has a voice to text function.

I know there isn't one, but why?? Isn't that an Android 2.1 and above feature? This phone has 2.1 like my Intercept did. I will try that keyboard but as I've stated, the other one I tried has voice input showing but it doesn't work. I'm beginning to think there is something missing in the phone itself.

Well, I never got this going directly, but I did find a source that showed me where to download the HTC keyboard apk and that works flawlessly! Problem solved (in a roundabout way). :D
