which came first droid or droid eris

ive noticed alot that people are calling the droid the first android device on verizon but last time i check they both came out on the same day :cool: so...opinions?
 
The Motorola Droid is definitely the first Android 2.0 device on Verizon. The HTC Eris did come out the same day but perhaps what people are referring to is the Droid line. I got both phones on launch and both packaging for the phones say Droid on them, which caused some confusion with my wife. I believe the intention by some of the marketing people was for Droid to refer to a lineup of Android phones on verizon.
 
this is a tricky question cause the Eris is the same phone as the Hero (on Sprint) and the Hero came out a month before the Eris and Moto Droid hit verizon.

but yeah, they both (Eris/MotoDroid) hit the store the same day.
 
Neither. The Eris may be an older model used on other carriers, but as far as Verizon is concerned, they both released at the same time. You're just arguing semantics if you're referring to the Eris being the Hero or anything like that. They came out on the same day. Simple, end of story.
 
Something more to boggle your mind. The "droid" name is a registered trademark from Lucas Film as in Star Wars. It's was specifically licensed for the moto droid and it says so on the box. Does it say the same on the box for the Eris? If so would that mean that the TM was released to Moto AND HTC or and here's the relevance to the thread....was the TM released to Verizon? In which case it would confirm the droid-line some one else suggested and mean that Verizon launched both the same day.

If you look at the phones themselves the hero has been around for a while.

Whatever dude. Eris was first by virtue of the fact it is the Hero re-skinned.
