ive noticed alot that people are calling the droid the first android device on verizon but last time i check they both came out on the same day
so...opinions?

Neither. The Eris may be an older model used on other carriers, but as far as Verizon is concerned, they both released at the same time. You're just arguing semantics if you're referring to the Eris being the Hero or anything like that. They came out on the same day. Simple, end of story.
The Motorola Droid is definitely the first Android 2.0 device on Verizon.
Something more to boggle your mind. The "droid" name is a registered trademark from Lucas Film as in Star Wars. It's was specifically licensed for the moto droid and it says so on the box. Does it say the same on the box for the Eris? If so would that mean that the TM was released to Moto AND HTC or and here's the relevance to the thread....was the TM released to Verizon? In which case it would confirm the droid-line some one else suggested and mean that Verizon launched both the same day.
