I am looking at an Samsung Galaxy Note or the Galaxy tab 7.7 to use a a phone almost tablet device.

I know note is getting ICS, is the tab too?

Note. Seriously. As a phone? I'm already having doubts about making calls on a Note due to size. Besides, its at least more pocketable than the 7.7 one. And I'm not sure the 7.7 has a phone function.

The Note works amazing as a phone, as long as your aren't concerned about people giving you funny looks. My Note has given me by far the best call quality out of all the Android devices I've owned over the years. (Awesome battery life too.)

@OP the Note may be too small for you, if you're interested in using a tablet as a phone. But in my opinion coming from a 4" device, the Note is by far the best option. It's the perfect size in my opinion, and you can't go wrong with it. It's nice having the best of both worlds, instead of having to constantly carry around two devices.

Over here in Taiwan there is a 3G 7.7

I have used one, even called my broken cellphone.

What I mean over here both can be used with sim cards. The 7.7 is actually cheaper. Though I think the note is getting the ICS update for sure.

The Note is getting ICS, but personally I would be keeping my phone and getting a tablet instead. While having only one device is great, you'll be having to deal with battery loss a lot. I'm a particularly heavy user, so I'd probably get the tablet for surfing, and keeping my communications in the phone.

You make a great point and just made me realize my mistake for not giving more information, I won't have 3G data. I just need sim for phone calls thats it. Other than that internet usage will be wifi (which I have at all my places) and maybe music.
