Help which lagfix are you using on Froyo?

RyanZA's z4root from market (which is a 1click root app that does not require a PC to root)
and RyanZA's 1click lagfix also from market (well the name says it all)
They were both super easy to use with only a few bumps on the way (like if you have moved some apps to SD card you migh want to remove the card before lagfix or you might get a failed to fix)

these makes my Galaxy S on Froyo super smooth and lag free. My phone is now very responsive even when doin multitasking that involves installing apps from market... something that would slow my phone down to a crawl before. Market also installs super fast but I think that maybe has more to do with Froyo but now I can even install multiple apps at the same times without much hassle again something that was a no go before update and root/fix. Why the hell Samsung doesn't get their fat lazy fingers out and make a fix I can't understand (well maybe a little... IF they do they would have a GREAT phone if not THE greatest phone... and would maybe have a tough time trying to top it :p) But they do have time to tell repair centres etc. that rooting (and thus being able to fix THEIR problem) would void your warranty. :mad:

Both are also very easy to remove again if you have to update phone or send to repair or whatever...

No one is using Voodoo? I'm using One Click, though I've been interested in hearing more comparisons. People usually start off with One Click it seems, though I've seen some people write that Voodoo makes their phone seem more responsive. I've also read Ryan posted something about why Ext2 is better to use for the Galaxy S than Ext4.
 
I've got Voodoo installed, I prefer it. I had OCLF on my Eclair firmwares and lag started to appear with increasing uptime, thats why I went over to Voodoo in the first place. Has to be installed with Odin at the present time, but thats not difficult (XDA has plenty of instructions).

Chainfire Root is better than z4 Root IMO (because it makes sure you have 2e/clockworkmod compatible recovery also), although more difficult to install since it also requires Odin.

I noticed the current version can onlyr be done with Odin. How will that affect my current FROYO build? i.e. with my localized keyboard, etc. I'm running the official one in HK. It would be nice if they released the non-flashing version.

Thanks for bringing that up.

1) Certainly on the one hand you're making your phone more prone to crashing (via the file system corrupting, etc) though I'd venture to say a factory reset/wipe would clean that up?

2) If you really use the phone to your advantage, using it as an extension of your google contacts and basically a portable email reader, I think once it is setup properly physically wiping the data isn't such an issue. I party a lot and there's always a concern that I'll lose my phone, so I'm very big on backing up information. Plus I want to simplify the whole process of migrating in the future.

3) Assuming that wiping isn't such an issue, but for the majority of users being pissed off at a laggy, slow responsive phone is.. then the ext2/3/4 file system lag fix is a very reasonable option. It would be helpful if the developers included something to even manually flush/check the file system (a button to run a script?) but, they've done a lot of work already and I think people are generally thankful for that.

Overall people need to be aware they can lose the data on their phone anytime, but I'm still willing to risk that if it means I don't need to wait 5 seconds every time I swipe the screen or press a button.
 
I'm running FroYo, and I've tried both. OCLF and Z4 root have to be complimented on their ease of use, but I noticed that lag started to re-appear after a few days. I've switched over to Voodoo and don't (as yet) have any issues at all.

Just a pity that on such a top end phone you have to use either. It wasn't easy trying to demonstrate the phone to others, "hey look what my phone can do"..press button.....pause....pause some more...pause a little bit longer...action.

For a loong time I have lingered on the verge to root so I could fix the lag, but as I don't know ANY Linux, superuser Android etc. I have been holding back... but those two (1 clicks) are just so simple and easy even a "monkey" could do it ;)

So true!!! But fixed it just flies! (for people joining thread now we are talking about our phones and lagfix not some poor neutered dog) :D

Yes I am in Singapore... and i hvn't yet got FROYO ...

Man ... i bought the phone seeing good H/W specs ;) but never thought would face problem because of their so called RFS... :mad:

Samsung really made big mistake launching that phone w/o proper testing :confused:. and on the top of that they are not providing the Froyo as well on time with the solution for LAG problem ...

I tried contacting Customer care.. but those ppl also do not know about the Froyo update as well ..
Samsung has that bad history .rather I say IMAGE... of not providing post-sale support.

Just think about it .... we are just wasting time fixing the phone problems :rolleyes:... instead of getting good out of it.. :D

Sounds like Froyo is out for you. I saw some other singaporean post.
 
I went with oclf in the end and I love it, benchmark is lower than eclair but the device feels much snappier in day to day use :)
