Which micro SD card to buy?

Maybe for the photos, but if you're recording HD video, you're going to need Class6 or higher...

Why is this? I thought the speed was just meant for transferring files. Are you saying my HD video quality on this phone is dependent on how fast the microSDHC card is?

I swore I saw on another thread last week that someone had a 32 gb in their phone, working. I'm curious to the max size we can have.

I bought 32GB SanDisk card from Verizon wireless web site (no account required) for $100 (I believe it's the best price around - by far). It works in my Captivate. I have not filled it up above 16GB though.

i have a 2 gb class 2 card that came with my bold 9700 and it worked fine with recording and playing back a test HD video right now. the quality wasnt affected at all. i normally use a 8 gb class 6 card in my phone though.

Oh - to correct my previous post about Titanium, I didn't realize at the time (still a Cappy n00b) it was backing up to /sdcard, not the actual SanDisk card (/sdcard/sd/).

I think people recommended C6 if you were using A2SD, but we have that going to the internal "sdcard", right?

I have a class 2 SanDisk 8GB ($14.99 at Staples on Black Friday) and it works fine for what *I* do with it... YMMV.

It's actually got nothing to do with the quality & everything to do w/how fast the system can write data to the card itself. HD video data amounts are so massive & coming in so quickly that the data needs to be able to write at high speed to the card (same thing for cards used in DSLRs shooting high-speed photography). If it can't, the transfer can fail & corrupt the video file. I know there are articles on the web discussing this, but I just don't have time to search for them right now. HTH.

Ah okay, that makes sense. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

And I do believe the manual has a typo; you can have an external 32gb microSDHC card for a total capacity of 48gb.

i purchased a 32gb microsd card from someone else here on the forums that purchased them cheap through verizon... and i have filled it up with 16gb of music and about 4 gb of videos... and it works fine...

i never tried formatting it on the phone though... :)
