Root which rom to choose???

i did the gold card and downgraded my uk three hero and ive done the flashrec and flashed recovery image and when i press home/power it gets me into a green menu in which i done a nand backup.
i think im still not rooted and need to install a custom rom can anyone advise please , all i want is stability and to transfer my apps to sd card.
i link to the correct rom will be very much appreciated.
update:
i went and flashed modaco rom and all went well but i downloaded titanium back up but it wont run says i need root access....im so confused

Modaco is a good choice for a stable rom

I think you probably just need to go to the settings, applications, development and tick USB debugging. (It might be hidden somewhere slightly different on 1.5 but it's around there somewhere). Without that ticked you can't grant apps like titanium root access.

enable those but still wont boot titanium also modaco looks the same as my 1.5 dont see any difference

Modaco looks the same as 1.5 because it is 1.5 It's just a heavily optimised version of the stock ROM.

None of the 2.1 ROMs are stable because we have no official 2.1 ROM yet.

Yeah, if your card is formatted correctly it will start automatically.
